La Paz becomes airline's 10th destination south of the border
July 12, 2006
The U.S. Department of Transportation has granted approval for
Alaska Airlines to launch service between Los Angeles and La Paz,
Mexico, and between San Francisco and Cancún. That makes a total of
five new Mexico routes approved by the DOT in the past month.
Flights to La Paz, located on the southern Baja Peninsula, will
operate year-round starting Oct. 30. The nonstop San Francisco-
Cancún flights will begin Oct. 29 and run seasonally through April
28. Initially, the airline will offer nonstop service three days per
week to La Paz using 144-seat 737-400 aircraft.
"With La Paz's increasing popularity as a leisure-travel destination
and steady demand from travelers visiting friends and family there,
it is a natural extension of our growing service to Mexico," said
John MacLeod, managing director of planning and alliances. "More
than 1.2 million passengers already take advantage of our award-
winning service to and from Mexico each year, and we're pleased to
add La Paz as yet another option."
The city represents the 10th Mexico destination served by Alaska.
The airline announced June 21 it will add seasonal nonstop service
beginning in October between Seattle and Cancún and between Portland
and the Mexican resort destinations of Los Cabos and Puerto
Vallarta. |
