Donkey dick-isms aside, have a legitimate issue that needs to be resolved. Been staring at said d.d. all weekend and haven't decided the best method for a length reduction. Saw? Melting device? Razor or saw then melting device? What's the best way?

SS used a few different kinds of DD in the past years. I've had ones that are just the flimsy hollow tubing that you can cut with scissors and then the kind that are filled with a resin/ really hard stuff. I would guess you're asking about the resin one, otherwise you'd just trim it with some clippers.

I ended up using a hacksaw to cut through that stuff... its really rigid and tough to get through. Then I used a lighter to melt the plastic a bit around the edges so it looked clean. I think you could also do it with a hot knife/ rope cutting burn tool, but the hacksaw did the job pretty well.

If you shorten it, make sure you consider just how elongated the chicken loop gets when it's under tension. Don't cut it off too short!

The DD on my new Octane bar is pretty short and flexible. Seems to work fine. A definite improvement.

Geez Jim, here we're all looking at 'enhancement' and you're trying to shorten it...

That is a tiny chicken loop. I think that dd is intended for a larger chicken loop.

It's how you use it.

All kidding aside...the purpose of shortening the DD (is there another name?) is for? I've had mine come undone and not on purpose. The longer the better- but the one shown in the photo seems crazy long. I want to shorten my chicken loop. Any advice on that? I have a hard time with de-powering. I have short arms...yeah, my new nick name is T-Rex. funny, right?

Melo - the industry term in "Donkey Dick" - just is. However, I have people refer to it as a "Donkey Stick"

As for the length - if you are unhooking trying to pull that donkey stick from your hooked harness is a pain - and then putting it back in when you are done unhooking.

Too short and it pops out. Too long and it gets in the way.

OHHHHH. Thanks for the info. Now I know.

I'll keep mowing the lawn and cheering you un-hooked people on. The only time I have gone unhooked was by accident and fortunately it ended well.

Kook-kook-a-choo,

M.

M,

My wife has the same problem de-powering Rev's. i chopped the chicken loop down so much that i had to cut off the collar with the screw so the loop could get on and off the spreader bar.
