Blowing nnw 14 right now. 2 knots above forecast.

Nothing I hate more than driving and then sitting.

Any thoughts?

For those of you who were wondering if you missed anything.... not really.

from 6:00 till 8:30 it was light, fickle, fluffy, and spottie. Once again, the Sauvie island curse was inflicted upon me. Smile

In response, I'm buying a 30 meter bow kite and a 10 foot longboard with 2 sets of straps. I will not be denied my time ont he water EVER again Crying or Very sad

For all you guys that are close to being on the east side of Portland... Stevenson is only ten minutes further and is a much easier drive... Very easy to forecast with a great sensor and a camera that lets you see before you go... Although I love the fact that there were only five of us on the water last night, it would be fun to see a few more guys out on the weekday evenings...

Stevenson is good but man oh man, that launch is soooo LAME.

It's almost like they need to put a turn style in to launch on the weekends. LOL

Why doesn't someone throw a big chunk of carpet weighted down with some bricks on the launch place?

Bam Bam nailed it. Would you rather be lit on a 9, or mowing the lawn on a 17 @ SI?

Saweet, nice to know that a little launch challenge will keep guys away... But anyway... Stevenson is not any secret, and the drive seems to keep you guys heading out to Sauvie... It will always be crowded on the weekends when its good, but a few more peeps on the weeknights would not necessarily be a bad thing. Kiting is a lot more fun with a few people and sometimes there is strength in numbers when things go wrong.

This is not surfing folks so please stuff the territorialism. There is plenty of room out on the water to spread out and share the wealth.

Oh, no, were coming now, we were invited!!

I'll rent a van and bring all the newbs at Sauvies out to Stevenson every afternoon. Trainer kites, board leashes and all.

The kitemere Caravan is now officially in effect. Cool

I'm thinking about picking up a 16m crossbow for sauvie's

I would think it would be a great low wind kite and could also boost like man in a little stronger winds.

Any thoughts? I have never flown the 16 before. A buddy ahs a good deal on one, i'm supposed to look at it today.

The real challenge for us who live/work on the far west side is to weigh the risk of getting taken out by the Newbs at SI vs. fighting the traffic on Hwys 26 & 84…

It's a good thing that there are some barriers to entry at Stevenson!

Stevenson is a whoot, but if you can't get there by 4, get used to the line: "oh man you should have been here an hour ago." It dies well before sunset usually, and for the 9-5 crew that just ain't nice.

Sauvies on the other hand usually peaks 5-7pm and on strong days usually blows all the way till sunset. I have been at Stevenson plenty of times when it was dying out and Scapppose was still reading strong.

No gridlock on highway 30 either. It takes me 35 minutes to get to Sauvies beach from downtown in rush hour traffic. On the contrary trying to battle your way down 84 east out of downtown at 4:30pm is an exercise in rage control.

So there are reasons for picking either spot. I'd say mostly it just depends on the weather, if you see a strong Sauvies forecast go there, if it looks like there is only a chance it will happen or it will be light, bug out of work by 3:30 and head for Stevenson.

Just my 2 cents...

Here's an example of what I am talking about, taken from this time last year. You can see around 6:30 or so almost everyday it dies significantly. A lot of the time its still rideable on a bigger kite, but jumping from your 9m to a 16m isn't always worth it.

I usually want 2 hours of riding, so if I can get there early and be on the water shortly after 4pm, Stevenson is the ticket. Otherwise I'll take the later sesh at Sauvies (makes my boss happier too.)
