Any advice on how big a tear you can repair with kite tape vs. getting it professionally repaired? I put a tear in my kite this afternoon about 1 inch long and then a half inch 90 degrees so there is a little flap. Should I just tape it or get it sewn back up?

I have taped bigger on the canopy and flew it many many times. Clean it up -round the tape corners and do it on both sides like a sandwhich. pro fix is great but down hear that means down time. Sew it yourself or tape it , what ever you can live with.

Tape would probably work fine, but if you want to look good Airtime always does a fantastic job.

Anything small, including the 12 inch (cross-grain) rip JP put in his Fuel 9, we Tear-Aid. I wouldn't use ripstop/dacron tape for anything that big, but Tear-Aid is sooooo sticky/strong, it does just fine. And it's nice because it's clear.

Sounds like it'd work perfectly for your rip... (use Type A)

I tried using it to patch my bladders too, and it seemed to hold just fine!

Personally, I would take it to airtime and get it done right. They have a great turnaround time and lockers so you can pick up your gear anytime. They fixed a blown out seam and rip of mine and I can hardly tell they did anything.

How bummed will you be if its an epic day and your patch falls off?

just my 2-cents.
