Kites are not expensive. Just learn how to steal like Wall Street fat cats, and you will be buying one for each of your sessions.

Bingo! You all would crap your pants if you knew the true cost of each one of these kites straight from the factory... And remember, the company is making a nice profit even after they sell in to the retailers at wholesale. True cost is cheeeeeeap! LOTS OF MARKUP IN KITES! Reatailers really dont make that much on the kites after all the buddy dealing.

Now that sounds awesome!!! Which brand do I need to contact to get kites at that price and where are the people who will buy them at that retail price?
I knew we were doing something wrong.
You are so smart!!

|

Right now there are some incredible deals on kites. There is a 10 RPM for $800 bucks?? You can get a new td 3 for very low prices.
Once you get one kite your set. Let's say you pay 1000 retail for a kite with a good warranty.
Some kites even have no questions asked warranty.

on a more serious note, take tony's advise. Take a ECON 101 class. Bottom line is,
materials are expensive, not enough people kite to make production and material cost cheap, local advertising cost money, there really aren't enough publications that it matters which manufactues hit, still have to sell on a regional basis, blah blah blah. In the end, were s a super small industry, making a small amount of product and the cost of doing buiesness is increaseing. Did I say where a small industry?

Kites are expensive for only the same reasons others have already stated.
Supply and Demand.
The supply is limited very limited. Most have to preorder their kites and then they are made and you get them. Those that are on the shelf the good ones go fast and the fufu ones stay there until next year when they go on sale for 50% off.
The demand is growing and I too would love to see the prices come down. and yes the retail price tags are up in the 1800's$ Many dealers have to slash prices cause of the sticker shock.
Bottomline you are either in this sport or you're not. If you're in its a hobby its your funtime and people rarely look at the sticker price when it come to fun.
I try to think of it this way buy everything you ever wanted for kiting 3000-4000$
Buy one boat 15-50,000$
Buy a snowmobile 10,000$
Buy a atv 7,000$
Buy a lift ticket at your favorite ski resort 50-1000$ (for season pass)
buy gas and maintenance on all the above. Priceless
Buy the gear forget the price and realize how much you are really saving by owning this expensive gear.
Until you see kites in walmart this is how it is and will be. and if they do happen to show up in the local walmart. WILL YOU PARTICIPATE?
I quit snowboarding, cause of the rules kiting has none. I'll gladly pay extra for the solitude.
The prices aren't what the costs are and even at 100% markup the kites would barely tip 200-400$ So what its a fun sport and FUN=MONEY MONEY

I'll tell you why kites are so expensive...it's this fucker right here. This is the guy that buys tons of kite market shares and hordes them, thereby driving the price up. He did the same thing in the diamond market, buying and storing millions of diamonds to artificially keep supply low. This is the ugly face behind the betrayal.
Look at that little smirk on his face!!! He has us all by the balls.

manufacturing costs are one thing, but you must also consider the overhead, i.e. product development investment (designing and testing), initial tooling costs (injection molded components), promoting the product (adverts, team riders and keeping them happy with kites, travel and whaetever else they supposedly recieve, and supporting events with free shwag).
I am sure this all needs to be factored into the product.
No doubt it is what the market will bear, but all these costs need to be accounted for to determine if the market will still bear the product cost.
Actually I never took any econ classes, but I run a small business.

There you go stringy, talk to the small buisness owner. Me being a former buisness owner, stringy caught a nerve of mine. Just because my empolyees saw a 10 or 15,ooo$ check each month doesn't mean that i was taking home anything. infact I was ski patroling to pay my second mortgage and pay for advertising so they could keep benefits and get paid on time. Like i said in the start, its the cost of doing buisness that keeps prices high. All the things that stringy said is right. Even if the true cost of the kite is 400 bucks, what about shipping, development the cost of the kite designer which in most cases probaly means that they took a HUGE pay decrease from some airline company or other engineering job. For that matter, businbladder is right too........in the end, its all about buisness. I for one think its insane to pay 1800 for a kite. To me it means that you didn't even consider demo's or used kites. Out side of the gorge and people that are living in a place to kite every day it seems a bit nuts. Take skiing for example, I live at a ski area, and think about how much money in gear I'm wearing......1500 for skis and bindings, 750 for boots, then getting them fitted. Poly ling john top and bottom-100.00, crazy expensive socks so my feet don't turn in to a petry dish, 60.00, gore top and bottom 1000.00 and a insulater, plus 100 for gloves, good eyewear 60-120. oh and they you have to have touing gear, 750.00, then you have to have fat skis ect ect ect.......so to me kiting isn't that bad.
But yes.....damn those seattlites that come in there pimped out vans and spend money in HR on groceries and beer.......Damn those people putting money into your economy.
Just kidding guys, and for you retailers trying to make it work and stay alive.......MORE POWER TOO YOU!!!!! Good Job! Keep it up. With out you we would all be still standing on the beach watching windsurfers saying .........."I don't get it......"
ARRRGGGG!!!!!!!!
Carry on boys.....
