I feel like a wimp....
Today I showed up that beach and it was light.
Guys were out of 15s and bigger, riding Glides
and 150+ boards.
The wind peaked a little to maybe 15mph and I thought
about pumping my 9 on a pulley bar w/19m lines and
going out on my 4ft x44 Flywood. Based on previous
experience, I'm positive that I could have been riding,
doing raleys and S bends while staying comfortably
upwind. That setup is just weirdly efficient.
But I didn't go out because I felt like a puss riding
my wimpy little 9.
What is wrong with me?

P.S. Actually I feel better since I just saw one of
the joga bonita comercials. "Do it because you like it" |

I am very impressed with my 17.5 machine. It really gets going in light wind & the cleatable nose line has amazing de-power without compromising steering & jumping.
I love it when the wind comes up and trys to pull me off my skim board, I just grab that oneline and give a little pull & point it up-wind.
I’m 200lbs so I need plenty of go-go when the wind is light.
Personally, I don’t see the value of a big (14m+) flat (bow) kite in light winds. For me, flat kites are for high & gusty winds so I can rig big and ride with the bar out.
They are also good for beginners and light-weight riders who have difficulty staying up-wind and controlling the kite by edging the board and/or are very saftey conscious.
My 2.5-cents… ~D
PS Hein – you’re just in a different category, that’s all… |
