Yahoo got to quote That nsi pump looks built tough

Auto parts store or McMaster Carr
NSI and I released a hose kit that featured a 90 degree adapter with a pressure gauge and used a braided hose with machined brass fill a nipple. It was before any kite companies were offering gauges on their pumps. It's not for sale anymore but I still have materials on hand so if you want to stop by I'll make one up for you. |

I added 14" of height to my pump with 4" abs pipe, wood foot and some duck tape, works great and cost me almost nothing. If you want to spend the bucks this is the best no hassle pump I have found. http://bravopumps.com/ You'd think some company would come out with a lithium-ion battery pump that would pump to 10 psi. and be lightweight. Oh yeah, the pup was extra.

You may want to look at the Volo Kit Pump -
It uses a CO2 tank and a custom regulator to maximize pumping volume.
You can do about 3 12M kite fills with one 20 OZ tank.
Check it out at www.pumpkiteup.com
Let me know what you think.

Man, I've got some old paintball tanks, I should look into one of those.
I do recall however that someone did a "study" that looked at people getting injured that had and had not pumped up there kites. It seemed that people using electric pumps were a little more prone to injury from not stretching out. Regardless, I hate pumping up my 14m T2. It takes 176 full pumps to infalte

Frenchy, I think the fuller pump should definitely help your back! I can see how much strain all that pumping action can have on the taller than average species!!
May I also suggest a session or two a week with dead lifts in the gym. It will strengthen your legs and back substantially!! You can use dumbbells instead of a barbell. Good luck man!

Hey KT, I'll try and get some photos posted later. The biggest negative is that CO2 leaks through the bladder due to the size of the CO2 molecule. If you fill with straight CO2, you lose about 1 PSI per hour. Works great for short sessions. For longer sessions, you can pre-fill the volume with an electric pump--$20 from Walmart. This reduces the partial pressure of the CO2 to a point where leakage is negligible. It seems like the Volo pump addresses this buy using a venturi to draw in ambient air.

Hey Tim, could you maybe tell us more about how your pump works? Any chance of adding a pressure gauge to check the pressure in the kite? I know the filling pressure would break the gauge; I use a valve to isolate the gauge while filling...

Hey Nak, what about the compressed air tanks for paintball? You can get a 3000 psi 60 cubic inch tank for pretty cheap. I have no idea how many kites that would fill up or how many recharges you could get from one scuba tank though.

I have 10 scuba tanks. every thing from 120 qft. to 13 qft. I even have tha attachments to fill the kite up. But that's not what I'm looking for. I want a portable pump. One that I can carry on my kite bag. For half a mile if I have to. I have a slingshot pump, It's just to short and not as efficient as I would like it to be. I just want one that is twice as tall and more efficient. I don't want to extend it to make it taller. I just want one that is taller in general. One that pumps more air per strokes.

Well, unless you want to spend $250 they don't make the pump you want. i wanted the same thing awhile ago. I even tried to find PVC or ABS pipe that would allow me to use my SS pump innards but had no luck.
Another thing to think about is that if you get a tall, full stroke pump (instead of making a regular pump taller) then there is going to be the same resistance at the bottom or beginning of the stroke...so your going to have the same problem you have now with the standard pump.
Can I ask how you got the kite fill attachments for your scuba tanks? Seems like a 13cu ft tabk wouldn't be too troublesome to haul around.

That would work too. I use the CO2 because the tanks are cheaper & it's easier for me to refill my own tanks. I keep a 20# cylinder in my garage to refill my 20 oz tanks.
Frenchy, Go to GI Joes. They sell a pump thats about 50% taller than the SS model. Just use the gauge & hose adapter from your SS pump. I got one on closeout last year for $10, not sure what the regular price is. Also, take out the top seal in the pump. MUCH easier on the back. (The pump only pumps on the downstroke then.) Some pumps have a little valve to relieve pressure on the upstroke; they're nowhere close to just removing the top seal. Try it, you can always put the seal back in. (You won't though, trust me! )

Aren't the Slingshot pumps shorter than the Cab/LF pumps?

I got the attachment at the dive store. It's an attachment designs to either blow down your gear. Or mostly to fill lift bags underwater. I do a lot of tech diving. It's relatively inexpensive. It's tapered at the end. It looks a lot like the nozzles they use to fill helium bottles if not the same thing. I think I paid $8 for it. It's attached to a 2.5 foot hose. and then a 1 st stage reg. I own a lot of regs. They are not cheap though. Maybe you can find a 1st stage for cheap on ebay. It doesn't have to be up to date. It's not like you are going to breath off of it.
