Well ya'll the first day at Sauvies is in the bag! Carl and I got it yesterday, pretty light, but enough to stay upwind. Pics to follow.

Well for the contest, I would say Mark being the closest. I didn't report it but Saturday at the N coast was 11m NW winds for 3 solid hours. I was in a 4/3 without booties or hood...so it was toasty enough.

And yesterday may have been the certifiable lock in with N wind all over the region (as reported). Seaside was very steady and solid 16m with 10' swell. I guess it is still Mark who will be sporting a new bumper sticker on his beamer. Laughing

Isn't Tucker the closest, or do you have to be "under" the actual date?

Good stuff barfly! Is the water temp up there pretty close to the Columbia? iKitesurf always shows that it's ~5 degrees cooler up north, than on the central coast...

Here's what I found: "Whoever picks the exact day or the day closest to will be the winner. In the case that two people are tied, the person who picked the earlier day will be the winner. (I figure favor the early season optimist!) Only one entry per date will be allowed, so get your pick in ASAP to make sure nobody takes it. "

I don't know. Free bumper stickers for everyone!

I guess the temps are about the same in the Columbia vs. N coast waters. Nothing seems as frigid as it was a few weeks ago.

What time of day did u guys sail SI yesterday.

Wind Slither and I sailed the lagoon at RR from 3 to 4:20 or so. Steady 19m/20m. Dark clouds overhead but sunny east and west.

Rare event when both sites are sailable. . . Shocked

Yah, kinda like spotting a Bigfoot in dem der hills… Wink

Nice job baggin’ it gents! T & I were signing closing papers at the Title Company around 4:20 yesterday Crying or Very sad

Still need to see digital documentation to confirm actual ride’age...

As for the rules, the winner of these types of events are usually the closest one not to go over the date, score, price, etc. (Bob Barker’s Game Show Rules; Chapter three, paragraph 3.244)

Now, if there was an over/under category, I’m in at the 26th for the under. ~Nad

I just looked out my window and saw the hole left by the wind gods as they opened the season at SI. Note the gospel orifice stationed above the greater Scappoose metro area...

Winner announced!:

Thanks for posting the pics Shay, I am totally disappointed in myself in missing the first Sauvie day. The man just had me locked in my little cube. This will be the first and last Sauvie day missed by me though, I promise you. Very Happy

There is a ton of wood on the beach. Can we legally cut it up or burn it down? If so we are gonna need some chainsaws!

Fire is going to leave a mess on the beach. lots of charcol that will get your kites all dirty and be lame to walk on. just make sure the fire is in a good spot were there isnt much kiting action.

Fire on the nude beach, assuming no nude people are around? Or would that just make them move closer to us during the normal Sauvie's season?

I don't think fires are allowed on Reeder Beach. . . Check the signs on the dike. All that tall grass and corn during the dry summer . . .

Best thing to do is to move the wood to higher ground, out of reach from the inflences of the tide/water.

Beach cleanup for sure. Next time el Norte comes. Remember, if its reading 10 or better from the n, nw, ne, "stick it to the man" and hall ur ass down to SI. Razz
