Is Sauvies rideable on a south wind? Or is the wind, current combo tough?

Also, I drove all the way to the end of the gravel road. How come people dont kite there? Is it because of the gravel? it seems like a nice beach.

thanks in advance
Mark

Not sure about how rideable it would be on a due south wind day, but that would definately suck if your put your kite in the water. It'd be one loooong ride back in unless you don't mind ending up in Washington! You're probably right about the current too. I'm not sure exactly how fast it flows, but since you're loosing your apparent wind, it'd better be a strong solid day. If it was blowing 20-25 SSE to SE, I'd probably give it a try...

I think you'd need a really good SE to fill in along the shoreline. The day we did it there was a wicked shadow on the inside that's get's worse the farther North you go.

I think the launching is fine up there off the noodie beaches on the North days....sometimes even better.

i have tried the nude beach and the beach further down from that and both are horrible. the combonation of unclothed seniors (not highschool seniors) and the wind shaddow coming off the island make it suck. the part closest to sauvies is good windwise but thats also where the nudists play volleyball. I suppose on one of those really windy days where sand starts blowing they might stay off the beach to protect their sensitive skin and it would be good but that is rare.

Yes I too have been amazed - scared Shocked by the nudies playing volleyball.

I was actually wondering about WAY down the beach to the north end. The river turns abit more north or maybe north east.

yea theres no nudists up there but the wind is funky and deffintily not as good as it is down on the main launch. it would be good for a downwinder though.

Don't diss the nudists. Some old saggies might rescue you one day and even offer you a beer. Laughing

Thanks for the knowledge! I think a downwinder would be tons of fun. As for the nudies....well lets just hope that its a hottie that comes to rescue me! Otherwise I am a great swimmer!

We looked at getting there awhlie back from Google Earth, and I think it is possible, but more or less it's just a pain in the ass (kinda inefficient since we're in Oregon too). As most of us switch up at ~2/3rds across, I've never set foot on the Washington side, but I'm sure launch and get across no problem (assuming the wind isn't too shadowed over there).

You have to start from where the boat used to be and work your way upwind to the naked colony and back!!!

Wasn't there a nudist kiter up there last year???...at least he appeared to be only wearing a harness (harnass!)...the jumping must be painful! Shocked
