I have a reason to be in Texas at the end of October/early November. We are thinking of kiting SPI for a week, but we're only really interested in waves. Does anyone know how consistent is the surf at that time of year?

ikitesurf.com has all sort of statistics to help you with traveling questions.

https://wx.ikitesurf.com/spot/539

Scroll to the bottom and look at Wind Statistics.

If you hold your mouse over the red area (>25 mph) by "October" it tells you that on average only 15% of the days see winds > 25 mph.

If you do the same thing for November it shows that 25% of the days see winds greater than 25 MPH.

Additionally if you left click on the November bar the graph to the right shows you statistics on wind direction. It shows that in November nearly all days >25mph come from the NNW direction i.e. "el nortes".

Additional more detailed information can be acquired by scrolling up and looking at the "Wind Archives".

Click on "View Month" and you can go back in time at previous years and look at what the wind did the same days of the month as you plan to vacation.

They get most of their waves from S to SE to E winds.... All you can do is check forecast before you go.

October and November are usually good months for waves. The big northerlys start to come down in October.

Give a shout to Brett at https://prokitesouthpadre.com. Late November gets iffy for wind, but your timing seems excellent. You may be surfing in some side-off conditions which can be holy by the bigger buildings, but if the question is should you bother with your equipment, it's not a bad gamble.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like it might be worth bringing the surfboards and kites.
