Great kites to learn on. No question. Price, however, seems very high to me. 50% of asking price feels right to me.

Agreed. Way too high....like bong hit high for 2 Z kites.

The kites will get abused and some kids don't always take on to the sport at first so before you sink a lot of green in go check out the 7 Rev (basically an older Z kite) and possibly 9 in this ad from Arehn to teach your grom how a 4-line truly works in the window etc...etc...etc and when they tomahawk explode it.....oh well.

I think that one could do better as far as price goes.

Can I assume that this teenager is your kid? If the case, wouldn't it be better for the teenager to be flying a kite that you use? You're more familiar with the kites you use and you may want to fly them some day. . . have an expanded quiver at your disposal.

6m and 9m seem like a good range to start with, although 6m probably will be the most used for the weight of the rider.
