what to look for in a kite/surfboard ?

Since I can't even think about actually hitting the water and going kiteboarding for another 6 weeks or so, I have decided to spend my time buying kites and boards and harnesses and just pretend that I am kiteboarding.

I was going to make a lightwind plywood board but decided that just buying a surfboard may be safer than operating a table saw, jig saw and router while balanced on one leg. Crying or Very sad

So what makes a good surfboard for kiting? how do these things look?
