Been really getting into the directional strapless kiting and was wondering if anyone had any experience or some wisdom they'd like to share about wake skating boards. Saw that people usually wear shoes when using them... Are regular skate shoes fine? Has anyone wake skated around the slider park? Thanks |

Yes, any sneaker works - ones that dry quick are best
i like Nike Frees some folks like Van chukka low
its nice to wear sneaks if you bail at speed in shallow water - your toes remain intact _________________ Go Deep!

Well Tona Driftwood is about the only kite specific wake skate left on the market and they are on sale for $130 right now so there's no real decision to make. They are freakin' heavy though, but all wake skates are. |

I just wear regular street shoes. Avoid leather and suede. Pick a sole that has good tread. The secret for happy feet for me, is wearing neoprene socks inside the shoes. This keeps sand out and prevents blisters. The neoprene socks I wear are marketed for body boarders, and are full length. Shoes are the only thing I wear on my feet now.
Besides wakeskates, check out skimboards and alaias too. |

I currently ride the Tona Driftwood. I'm now considering getting on the new Axis Planq41...

I don't mind the extra weight of these wakeskates because it stabilizes the board when doing tricks in the wind. They also have a flatter rocker than wakeskates designed for behind a boat. Imo the kite versions work much better at the cable park too.
For shoes, I like these...
Mystic Wake or Zhik ZKG sneaker (same product)
Astral Brewer sneaker
Adidas Terrex Climacool Boat sneaker
Like Gman said, getting a shoe that doesn't hold a lot of water and drys quick is much nicer than regular shoes, but regular skate shoes can be used. My buddy uses the original cotton Converse shoes. I prefer the grippier soles found on water specific shoes. |
