With water levels high it's nice to know when they are changing. Luckily the USGS has a site where you can look at and receive alerts via phone or email. Currently we are at 81 feet with a high flow rate.
This condition makes for some difficult relaunching if your kite goes down. It's also hard to teach in as the flow is swift. When the flow is high and the water is deep it's hard to keep the kite from drifting upwind. This can put some slack in your lines and make relaunching difficult for learning.

Here's the link for depth, flow, and water temp from The Dalles Dam to Bonneville Dam.

Good news is water temp is going up. Flow is 4.5 and we are at 18 year average . Should start to go down after run off.[img]

Holy cow, Almost 2 feet more of depth compared to last year. I emailed the Corps and asked if they might do a forecast. They don't do it on the Columbia but told me to look discharge levels at Bonneville and The Dalles.
It would be nice to know when the spits will appear again.
*Question is how late in June will it be?
