After reading a post about a kite sale going terribly wrong and also reading a reply that said basically to black flag people looking for kite gear to be shipped.. well it said NW kite is for NW kiters only etc..
Just had to say that as a kiter that has spent summers in the gorge and now finding myself in the middle of the desert.. BE NICE!
Kite gear is a specialty item and our community is small.. theres really only certain spots in the US to get quality used gear from.. the NW being one of them....so I guess that post really struck a nerve.
Theres assholes everywhere.. but lets just weed them out of our community. My favorite thing about being a kiter has always been being able to roll up to a beach, pump up a kite and be welcomed.. Now life has taken me into the middle of nowhere, and I kite solo 80% of the time.. so be nice not everyone is fortunate enough to live in a kite mecca anymore!! |

Well said. I'm in the same position as the original poster. I live a long way from any gear stores as well. So far I've had the same experiences, never had a problem with fellow kiters. Actually found everyone I've dealt with to be over the top kind and honest. I've bought and sold a lot of gear through various forums.
Hopefully we don't allow a few bad apples to spoil things for everyone.

Agree also. I live and kite in the NW and the market is completely saturated with used gear. I send most of my used gear out of state. |

Such a simple solution for people looking to have gear shipped: tell them you prefer to sell it locally and will keep them posted if a local buyer doesn't come through. If you can't figure out how to make sure a remote buyer is legitimate, advertise "local buyers only" or "local buyers preferred." I sympathize with your dilemma as a remote buyer, but to be honest packing and shipping is a PITA. Always worth asking, and very simple to say no. I have a light wind board, for instance, that I've mentioned in a few posts and am now getting PM'd on. I haven't posted it yet because a) I haven't had time, and b) I know from experience most potential buyers will be in light wind areas and ask me to ship it - which is certainly a fair request! |
