Well, it's back to that time of year when the Event Site ReOpens back up to full access for all water/windsport users, including you kiters!!!

Kiting at the Event Site, which includes pumping, launching and landing, opens back up on Saturday, October 1 and concludes next spring on April 30, 2012.

**There is going to be an exception to the Event Site access during Harvest Fest. The Event Site is reserved for Harvest Fest Days October 10-18 (which includes the actual event, and setup/breakdown days) Windsurfers, kiters, SUP’ers, kayakers, etc. need to respect this exclusive use, community event and find alternate launch and land sites.

RULES TO REMEMBER :

- Always respect and steer clear of other recreational users, whether on the beach, the water or even on the Sandbar. Safety is our strength and ignorance is our Kryptonite. Show everyone how good our sport is.
- The Event Site is not an not a beginner launch. This launch can have some wind and congestion issues. If you're not at least a strong intermediate, then launch in the regular area on the Sandbar.
- Pump and Dry your kites on the upper section of the grass area
- Do not leave your kite lines laid out all over the Launch and Land Zones (any area of the grass slope adjacent to the beach)
- When launching set up and launch all at once, when you've landed wrap up your gear and move it up the slope to keep the zone clear for others.
- The safest/best launching location is at the center section of the Event Site. Moving further west will guarantee a bad launch, and too far east gives no room for safety. Use good judgment and listen to the advice of veterans.
- When you launch your kite, get out and on the water quickly. The Event Site winds are swirly and holey, so the longer you sit on the beach the more opportunity your kite will fall out of the sky, no matter what brand or how good you are, the Event Site wind is like the Honey Badger.

Lastly, we'd like to say a great big THANK YOU to the Port of Hood River, Exec Dir Michael McElwee, Oper Mngr Laurie Borton and the Waterfront Rec Advisory Commitee.
These are the people that have made this launch access possible.
*If you want to show your appreciation and to let them know that the local kite community cares about this access,[b] please send them a simple email saying " I am a local Kiteboarder who uses the Event Site and appreciate this access. Thank you!".

Remember, to respect, represent, and ride in a manner that shows kiteboarding is an important part of this local community.
