Sat Jun 03, 06 12:52 pm Recommendations for late July near Portland? |
|
|
Hi,
I am going to be attending a wedding in Corbett (near Portland) in late July and am thinking about bringing my kiteboarding gear. I'd really appreciate some recommendations:
- good sites for kiteboarding within 45 minutes of Corbett/Portland. (I am an intermediate, 190 lb with 12m and 16m Vegas kites. Therefore, I won't have the right gear for any site that typically really nukes.)
- 4/3 wetsuit okay?
- any other considerations?
Thanks so much for any advice!

You won't be needing a 4/3 wetsuit here by late July. Your best bets will be Stevenson (25 mins from Corbett) & Hood River (40mins) for west wind. If by chance it goes easterly while your here you can kite right at Rooster Rock. Stick with HR if you are a new kiter, as Stevensen's launch is a little tight. You ery well could get blown off the water in July with a 12 as your small kite! |

Pacific high pretty much nailed it. I doubt rooster rock will blow east in the summer but you never know. You could probably get by with a shortie in July.
Bring your 16 out as July is a good time to hit Sauvie's when the north wind is blowing and its sunny as far as you can see west. Bring a bigger board as well if you have one, Sauvies can be fickle but its a very cool spot.
Have fun, just don't move here |

You might want to bring an 8 or 9m as well if you don't want the reverse skunkage to happen. |

avoiding reverse skunkage is why you keep your 'gay' windsurfing kit |
