well, I think I most certainly fall into the elitist camp at times. The rabid quest for knowledge of my youth has kind of materialized into a cynical realization of the sad state of affairs of things and general disdain for the overt stupidity of others. At times I wish I could try out the whole ignorance is bliss thing for awhile, I think it would be pretty liberating really. Just to look at something and say "huh, that doesn't look right but I'm sure its fine"
I think it doesn't help matters much that I work in the environmental consulting/ land use development field. The religion thing though, I've had some pretty frightening experiences with religious zealots and I'm married to a jewish woman who's mothers side of the family was wiped out during the holocaust. I do realize that there are allot of decent people that believe in god and go to church and actually help allot of people in need through their local churches. I guess what makes me nervous is a staunch belief in something that can not be proven/disproven.

Yeah, Monkeyboy has some good points.
You can believe whatever you want as long as you don't impose that shit on others. Unfortunately, too many religious kooks just can't keep it to themselves. Plenty of good religious people out there, just recently the a-holes have been trying to take over and making a scary amount of progress.
I also can't stand when people try to group science and religion. Science tries to understand and explain the world we live in based on OBSERVING it. Whether you want to believe that god created it or not is up to you. When you can set up an experiment to demonstrate why your religion is true and others are fake I'll be happy to revisit the situation.
Rant over. No need to discuss this any further since it'll probably just degrade into meaningless babble and I'd hate to mess up this thread. I just had to chip in my 2 cents.
