Southsyde!

Nuktastic 5m and decent wind swell - for Brooklyn, Sasquatch and GeneK. Diggin the strapless surfboard and 15m lines. A crazy fogbank mysteriously blew in at the end of the day - surreal watching everyone disappear into the mist.

ha ha! that happens so often. fickle and unpredictable for sure. microclimates are fun, and interesting on the edges.

if you get to the jetty you should be relieved. if you make it to the middle of rockaway, you're really lucky and will have been schlogging for the last mile. trying to get beyond that is just crazy. you should never really expect to get more than a quarter mile or so past the jetty. just not worth it.

maybe scottnorby should start directing everyone to this downwinder instead--half of the kiting population will be lost at sea. no more crowds. Shocked

Went well till we got to the Nehalem jetty - got halfway across the inlet and wind goes 35 to zero.

Had a few nice 7m sessions last year Manhattan to Barview - got a little weird around twin rocks - was gettin a bit close for a look

- but never experienced anything like the wind line we saw yesterday short of sailing near some high rise towers on a beach in FL

There was a crazy fog there this morning as well -- I was at the coast (Seaside) but couldn't get to the kite beaches!

Did any of you happen to see the mess of smoke and clouds around Mt. Adams?

There ought to be a prize for that.

BTW Strapless with booties don't work so well. Very Happy
but I guess if your feet turn into stumps then...

Did I hear someone say strapless with a 5M on 15 m lines is fun?
Was that with a C? Fixed? No way!

and a final word for team bozo:

Leave the ship wreck zone for the tourists and local beach goers.
Come in or launch well down wind so if something goes wrong
you won't take out one of the innocents. Fort Stevens has a
powerful management that probably will take steps to limit the
kiter area should any complaints be filed. Just do the right thing.

Quoted for persistance! Wink

My booties were designed for surfers. They go "strapless" a lot. Wink

Remember the Holly beach sign, "learn to surf kooks!" Oh yeah don't yell at the fisherman there, they have pull with management.

Yeah, WTF was that!
I honestly thought Mt. Adams errputed. No other clouds around: there wast a singe, tall, boiling white mushroom cloud with a mist of darker stuff below it....
Was it a fire or a weird atmospheric thing...?
anyone know?
I've never seen anything like it, it didn't look like smoke or a thunderhead.

Fire,
Started out as 35 acres went to 500 in one day. 11 miles north of troutlake on south side of Adams.

Thx for taking that pic Gman. . . never quite seen anything like it b4. If one looks at the pic closely, it goes from whispy white fog to deep clear ocean blue water to brown sandy brown water. . .kind of like a 1/2 gallon neopolitan ice cream.

Finishing up the dw in the fog was a trip! 9 out of 10 days on the coast--very nice.
