Please look before you post. If you said it before, then why say it again- especially if no one listened to you in the first place!

Spotting a nice trough, I started to look back before a jibe the week I arrived, but only had to turn my head 90 degrees to see a kiter blasting past me, less than 20' downwind. We were outside the bouy heading south toward the spit. I suspect, in his mind, he was racing me, while I was searching for a good trough to jibe in before reaching the flat water.

Look before you turn seems to be a repeating them, and warranted.

I think the other side of this is don't follow too closely to someone out in front of you, and if you are close in to the person in front of you stay a little bit upwind so that when they turn and loose a little ground downwind your not in the same place.

I find that someone can turn directly in front of me and not affect my line so long as I am a small distance upwind of them, but if I am downwind it is a recipe for distaster.

Well.......... This was a topic of conversation at the CGKA and CKWA meeting last night, and it is an important safety guideline. There's been quite a bit of people not looking before doing something, and kites bump, or people are forced to make quick turns, and others feel they are very defensive riders. But, that I believe is discussed in the CGKA notes section.
