Hey guys we had an awesome meeting with the windsurfers last night. I think this was a great step in building a strong relationship with them.
The main issues from the kiters and windsurfers that I took from the meeting were:
-Education – need to explain key elements of kiting to windsurfers and windsurfing to kiters.
-Everyone needs to look before they turn.
-Give each other space; if not possible make your intentions (of going up or downwind) noticeable.
-Be respectful – we are all wind junkies just trying to have fun.
-We need to build a community; lets introduce kiters to windsurfers and build a strong community. Going to do a BBQ for kiters and windsurfers.
Anyone else at the meeting can add their take on it if they want to.

We had a good meeting last night with the windsurfers! They seemed as pleased as our group to have communication so we can all have a better time while riding on the river. So here is our motto from last nights meeting - "Look before you turn". Now that is a positive outcome in my book! We made the analogy thats its kind of like driving a car. You don't change lanes before checking over your shoulder do you? Many people gave examples from both sides and we all agreed for everybody to join in the education with everyone.
Oh and we will be having a BBQ with the CGWA August 2nd. Yes, it will be in combination with the blowout BBQ, details to follow!

| It was cool meeting with Windsurfers throwing good vibes toward the kiters. Good kiter turnout and all CGKA BOD were present. Nice job and thank you!!! |

Yeap, good turnout. Nate and I will be working on an educational video to show at the BBQ, should be fun;-) Lots of positive energy, and just the need for the two sports to educate each other and try to dispell myths.
Hope everyone shows up for the August 2 BBQ.
Mark, thanks for driving Nic and I from troutdale. Good little kiting session we got in before the meeting. |
