The wind was great at Sauvie last night, but it was North to maybe NNE and about 60 degrees cross on-shore. Despite being too on-shore, it was working for me until it also got too strong and gusty. There was no one else on the water, and I decided against pressing my newbie luck after a while.

Has anyone gone out to the end of the dirt road past the nude beach at the circular parking lot to kite in a North wind? The beach angles way more North up there vs NW at the regular kite beach. I'm thinking that might be the place to go in a North wind.

On another topic, there was a guy who showed up last night that had bought a used black 16M Torch from someone, and he didn't even know whether to push-out or pull-in the bar to sheet-out. He didn't know what the depower strap or releases did. He didn't have an owners manual. Apparently who ever sold the kite to him didn't bother to clue him in. It was blowing mid to upper teens with gusts. He was setting up in a way that would probably maim him or his friends who were trying to help him launch. He and his friends had no idea what he was doing was dangerous.

When folks sell big C kites to total newbs, they ought to have enough respect for the sport in general to at least give the buyer a clue as to what he's in for and point out the basic safety features of the kite. Otherwise we're going to expose ourselves to bans when people and spectators get hurt.

There is definitely times when the kiting is better up at the nude beach. If you can self launch and land..which is fairly easy, you should be good to go.

kooks at Suavie? Shocked Shocked Shocked what is this world coming to??

Don't be afraid to speak up when you see somebody doing something stupid even if you are a beginner yourself. We've all been there and benefited from being yelled at.

Hi Fly,

Is there any beach up there yet? I was checking it out too, but I guess I was a little early.

Looks like any easy place for the less fortunate to break into our cars, though.

I hope all is well with you and your new stuff.
