minimal swell this weekend, not really any wind...
rented 2 SUPs from Tim at Oregon Surf Shop...
here's a list of drawbacks... feel free to add...

1) Can't go mtn biking or hiking when there is no swell or wind because I'm out on the SUP
2) I'm finding myself leaving my traditional surfboard in the garage, not even packing it with me just in case
3) When I get off an 11'6" SUP and on to my 7'10", my 7'10" feels like a 3'6"
4) Out in the line up, chatting with surfers, more and more of them want to try out the SUP, putting me back on the surfboard
5) It has eliminated my light wind kiting
6) I have to dodge the ocean wildlife (seals, pelicans, etc...) while paddling out and exploring the reef by haystack and the rocks below the cape
7) my wife loves it (and is actually surfing waves now), so now she wants to buy 2

Keep in mind that there's a 500-ft. distance required from Oregon Island Wildlife Refuges. Haystack Rock is one of these.

SUPs are crazy fun.
What flavor boards do they rent?

TinyE still need to hook up in pc. You forgot to list they are so freakin huge they don't fit in your board rack. I put my 9'6" on consignment so I would have room for my new SUP on the rack. I get it home and it does not even come close to fiting on the rack. But I had a blast on it by the third day I was catching some really nice waves.

thanks, didn't know that! I wasn't that close to it...but there were plenty of kayakers out scraping fiberglass on the rock! :0

can't remember the brand he rents....I want to say I remember reading Tampo or something like that... he may have to chime in... has 2 sizes, but I got the big ones because of no surf...

i had them both strapped on soft racks on the top of a 325i (wife's car)... the boards extended from near the front of her car to the end of the trunk... pretty funny looking going down the road!

at one point Sunday morning, the SUPs outnumbered the surfers (2 sups to 1 surfer)

those things look crazy fun. for small wave, light wind days i'm guessing tons more fun than mowing the lawn.

too bad blowhard is limping this year, i'll bet he would have dialed that toy otherwise. esp with the season being relatively limp so far ... i think mother nature is mourning blowhard's land-lubber status.

Was on the North Shore on a flat day last month and tried an OC-1 (single man outrigger). Anybody considering an SUP should try one of these out if possible. Another super fun alternative for the ocean.
