In the past they have been very active here in Oregon.
Definitely their heads are in the right place.

I remember in the 80s they were all about keeping Oregon waters clean and pollution free. Even blew the whistle on some serious pollution on the North coast. They were part of the solution for keeping sewage out of coastal waters. Through volunteer members they still monitor the coastal water quality and let us know when there is bad behavior.

They are our watchdogs.

You just inspired me to rejoin. Thanks, blowhard.

I joined while living in CA and have kept up the membership. They are definitely strong in Portland and the central coast, in fact the last few years I've noticed a progressive increase in participation - they have a good newsletter that keeps you updated. When I moved up here, I kind of felt like most of my contribution went to California but they actually have impressive lobbying impact in Washington DC which is good for all water enthusiasts.

I'd like to see more activity up here in the N coast - but that's what activism is for!! I need to get more involved with water testing and meetings. Need to make the time I guess. But since you started the post blowhard, I'll make some plugs.

-Pick up trash if you can, and your dog's poo on the ocean and river beaches
-Say something, or at least give a good stink-eye to beach users who don't
-Go to a few meetings here and there if you can

same 'ol stuff you've heard before I guess Razz

Seems like a very worthy cause indeed. There are worse ways to spend $25 that is for sure. Seems there is an event next week!

Pints Not Plastic
Portland Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation and Kona Brewing are holding a Pint Night fundraiser for their growing initiative on reducing plastics in the consumer marketplace and in our coastal watersheds and beaches. Please join us at Backspace in downtown Portland on Wed, May 21st at 6pm. Attendees can purchase pint glasses with Surfrider Foundation and Kona Brewing logos. The glasses can be filled or empty. There will be lots information of Surfrider campaigns and programs plus surf films and music. Kona Brewing partnered with Portland Chapter of Surfrider Foundation to develop this fundraising program to help the chapter's plastics awareness campaign; which had its official kick off on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th). Kona beers to be featured at the event are Longboard Lager and Fire Rock Pale Ale.

No, my friend, that is not me nor is it a boogie board.

That is Teahupoo (say Cho-pu), the legendary wave of Tahiti. A very serious wave. Site of the Billabong Pro. Only known to be ridden in modern times, now by windsurfers and kitesurfers including Ben Wilson and Martin Vari.

While I have surfed big waves in Hawaii and considered myself a big wave surfer, I am not sure I would go out at Teahupoo in the pictured conditions.

Now, if it were only double overhead and the wind was just right then.....
