Its a fish net. There was about 20 guys and one gal out today and nobody had any issues with it. It been dubbed "The Board Catcher"

Ruben was killen it today at Stevenson. That boy has some sick moves, he lands everything with style. HUGE kiteloop with a upsidedown twisty unhooked flip to back 720 to blind, I think he's calling it the Rubenator Laughing Go get em Tucker.

I don't get home for a week, so the winds should stay good for you guys this week... I layover in Kailua a couple of times this week, so the winds will probably shut off there tommorow afternoon. Alex, if you're reading this, better get your riding in quick! Wink

I asked the Port manager to look into it. Not sure of the rules/regs regarding tribal fishing rights, public fishing, port ordinances, usage etc... I think there are safer spots to put the net. Give John a couple of days to track down the owner and go through the steps.

05-06-08 update from John:

"The tribal gill netting season is open from 6 am May 5th (yesterday) through 6pm May 8th (Thursday). The placement (or miss placement) of nets has come up in the past… when the nets are placed in front of Stevenson Landing pier and prevent the cruise ships from docking. The nets tend to move around. Typically the nets are placed for a few hours, check (for fish) and reset or moved."

John's checking to see if the net can be moved but seeing as how the window is so small for the tribal members to try and make a living I think we can live with it for a few days. It's also pretty early in the season and I doubt any beginners will be coming in to get tangled up in it before Thursday.

If someone thinks it's a real hazard stop by the Port office (same building in Slingshot is in) and talk to John McSherry, Port Manager.

Tony

P.S. - Thanks, Tony! The net wasn't really getting in the way yesterday either. Just had to skip over it a few times.

Let them fish.

were just a bunch having fun while there trying to scrap out a living....

Nets, logs, boats, river pollution, windsurfers, jet ski's, etc... are things to watch out for too, just something you must get used to if you use the river... Where not the only ones...

Be proactive to whats in your way and hopefully you make it out alive...
