Why wintler park? why not the public beach near the marina at PDX?
Just for something new?
Not trying to hate, just curious. I think I might try launcing on at the airport after work if it's still windy.
EDIT: oh, you're from Vancover. That's a good reason. Tell us how it when if you go.

Tucker and I checked out Wintler a while back... Seems like it's kind of patchy. Might just be because, as you travel east, you're actually getting slightly shadowed by the land (shoreline seems to run a little north to south), whereas at the "airport" the wind a little cleaner from an angle off the water. May be better on an ESE-SE day?

The main reason why I was thinking of going there was I don't really want to kite in directly offshore winds.
Especially when the water is this cold and you'd be f'd if you were being dragged downwind.

Is anyone planning on going out at either wintler or the airport?
I'll probably at least check out wintler for future reference if nobody wants to ride.
Today doesn't seem like a good day to ride alone.

Andrew. Sorry man, I was trippin'! When the trees blow at my house, it's normally cranking east, so I assumed that's what it was today (without even thinking about the forecast I saw yesterday or checking iKite). I'd think it could work in a SW wind if it's clean. Watch out for the shadow from the big burm/dock/breakwater thing to the west.

Call up Tucker. He's going crazy at home right now. I just don't feel like riding without sun! Might come out and film though if it's good anywhere.

Just a thought, but a true downwinder from Broughton Beach aka the airport beach across the river to the marine ship yards seems very doable. . .Never done it, but if you have someone willing to pick you up and film as well, well that is more than half the battle. Wind looks good. Just a word of caution, lots of pilons both above and below water level at the marine ship yards on the Couvlanistan side of the river.

well, that would be the airport with devil-winds and asphalt!!!!! IF the rain holds off!!

But, I like Sasquatch's idea....I have thought about that....totally do-able...And we checked out Marine park in the couv', which could totally work I think cuz all the area you have downwind of you in case you need to bail.

but I can't get wet until tomorrow, so gonna check out airport.

Onsite report from Tucker at Wintler: "Pretty much straight onshore and choppy." "...There are sea lions out there too, but I'm going to go home and cry."

Asked him about a downwinder from the airport and he didn't think it'd be a good idea. Said you can see a big wind shadow on the water offshore.
