My work schedule permits about a 4-5hour window in the morning a couple days a week for a morning session. I don't mind driving 45min - 60min each way if it's worth it.

Is this at all feasible? Seems like the ground doesn't start to get warm till around 1pm-ish, I'm assuming there's probably not going to be much in the way of morning wind in the gorge?

It can work for EAST wind days out at Rooster during the fall (dawn patrol), but generally not so much this time of year. West wind normally takes some heat out east to get things moving. Speaking of which, where is the sun? Cool

The fall RR dawn patrol seshs are sweet! Not warm at all, but very fun. If its easterly get there before dawn. Nothing like rolling into work with a big smile on your face because you got to tear it up already.

...And getting up that early makes me feel like a surfer. Wink

I'm gonna back everyone up on the DP at RR...soooo good.

Also, watch Hood River, Viento and sometimes even Stevenson mid to late summer in the AM. If the Gorge is really gonna nuke during the day, sometimes these sites will hit mid teens an hour after sunrise...like Adam said, the desert just needs a little time to heat up, and then it's on.

If there's a large overnight temperature diff between Portland and anywhere east of the Dalles, after sunrise it's go time.
