Translated in English it means White Island.

I just recently visited Cancun, Mexico over my spring break and I heard of this place Isla Blanca which was north of Cancun about 20 miles or so (I don't remember because I was so excited so it seemed like 50 miles) Well anyways on the way out you feel the hectic terror of city life drifting away as you enter this land of nothingness except for a white sandy road and some short green shrubs with iguanas running around.

I ended up at a kite school called Ikarus which was the only school that had developed in that area.

The spot was a massive lagoon that had water depths ranging from your shins to you waist for about 2 miles out. It Was crazy.

The wind was off shore but that did not matter seeing that it was so shallow. The kite instrutor said that you could kite this spot with any direction of wind and I believe it!

I'm still a beginner so I paid $50 U.S. dollars/hour for a supervision lesson where they would watch you and if you went too far down wind (about 2 miles), they would race down with a jet ski and pick you up. Oh, full gear was included in that cost. This was a great deal compared to what I paid up here in the states.

Well anyways, The wind was not super strong to kite in very well but I was just amazed at this shallow kiddie pool of a lagoon. I would recommend this spot to anyone traveling down to Mexico for any part of the year. They also have some accomodations right there on the beach that are available for rent if you want to stay for a period of time without commuting back and forth from Cancun. The lodging is brand new and was finished about 3 months ago.

I don't have any pics uploaded yet, But I will see what I have.

Thanks and keep those kites pumped up,

Eric
