Marina's story says it all.
Just 2 years ago I was in Pismo loving it and now it seems even Pismo is getting regulated.
About the cheesy lifeguards....I experienced them near Huntington Beach and at Sunset Beach (kiting there is legal during certain times---?huh?)
And I was threated with a $250 fine for riding at Bolsa Chica.
I prefer 6 mile downwinders, driving on the beach in my truck and building a huge bonfire after a session----
But if you want to feed a parking meter while you hang out on a beach with the other 35 year old stalkers ---getting a tan looking at chicks rollerblading---go to so cal.
Long story short I really think you should take your family to Pismo Beach and look into camping at lake lopez which is 10 miles inland and a nice campground.
You can drive to Ventura or SB from there (90 minutes) if you want. |

| Santa Cruz ain't so bad. Just go kite at Waddell or Scott's Creek. You won't run into any surfers there when the wind is on and while some people are less friendly than others on the waves I've never had any issues in years of kiting Waddell. Just keep in mind that it can get crowded sometimes so be respectful and follow common wave riding guidelines. |

It's been the same story at Pismo for years, just more people now visiting so higher visiblity and more enforcement. They (state parks) are addressing their snowy plover protection plan this week behind closed doors, so maybe this will all be moot soon since many have argued that their numbers have far exceeded the need for them to be a protected/endangered species anymore.
It's still a GREAT place to ride:-) _________________ Marina

| I have been to Waddel a couple of times and never had a territory issue, common sense prevailed I guess. We really like Leo Carrilo park, though the kiting there was totally flat while I was there? I never had a problem at pismo either? Haven't rode at Scotts? Anything way up norCal, near brookings or cresent city?? |
