| Does anyone know the local scene or preferred spots? I like to be around other kiters as most of us do. I'd appreciate any advice. I also have with me 2 snowkites and would like to know where the Bend area kiters gather, unless that information is top secret.

| there isnt much snowkiting in the bend area unless you have snowmobiles, if you do water wickiup and prineville resevoir are hit or miss, just have to watch the wind sensors

Just google map "fern ridge or"
It's right beside the airport like 2 miles away. We ride on a SW when the water is down, but I guess it also works on other winds when the water is up. Very shallow - you can touch the bottom almost everywhere when the water's down except where a channel has been formed by current flowing through to the dam. During the winter it's a frosty 39 degrees but a gravel bar also exists on the west side when the water's down! That's cool cuz the rest of the lake is basically mud.
Various people have their ideas what makes the mud brown, but the mud makes the water brown and hence I wouldn't recommend drinking too much "Ridge Juice".

The ditch (fern ridge) is gonna be your best spot. gets some decent winds during the spring time too, like last thursday. Orchard point is a good place to launch from, theres a toll booth but there's no one ever there , then theres another county park on the western side. during the sping you may be able to sneek into the yatch club or tri-pass ski club. tri pass has a care taker onsite 24/7 though. Getting there is easy, head west on beltline, take the Jerry's exit, turn north then take a left at the first light you come to. florence is also aroung an hour away too.

the ditch actually is fern ridge ,flat water and shallow and when the water is low the south end looks like a ditch and the dam end on the north is a little uncrowded lake if slimy clay.
the coast is a scary shark infested man eater. Advanced riding in waves.
Usual session includes some sea creature eyeing you up for dinner with or without your knowledge.
