Mon Mar 10, 08 8:29 am Underground FLX -- any comments? |
|
|
I have been looking around for a new board and it seems allot of people like the underground FLX. Does anyone have any experience on this board?
I'm looking for an all around board that has enough rocker or flex to cut through the chop but still has the ability to go fast and the stiffness to generate good pop for the occasional wake style move.
I like the feel of my jimmy lewis but I'm thinking I would like a some what faster board that is "edge-er"
I heard allot of good things about the underground.
Any thoughts? |

| I tried the 2007 132 a couple times. It's rides pretty much like what you're describing. Wood core, environmental company, nice graphics too. |

I have an '07 132 flx and had the '06 last year. The 132 is stiff, much stiffler than the '06's and a bit too short if you are in any kind of chop, but great on flat water. Depending on your size, you may consider the 138.
Nice features are dual concave bottom for a smooth ride, huge fins (I have a smaller set of 1-1/2 for flat water), graphics as WS pointed out (though again, I'd say the '06 graphics are better), & durability.
Definitely not a surfy, funboard. It is mostly all business for freestyle and pop. The dual concave does, however, make it acceptable on the waves. |

| I rode my friend's 2006 128cm FLX and it was a really comfortable ride. It ate chop for lunch (absorbed it). I personally didn't like the board for freestyle because it wasn't stiff enough to go fast or generate good pop (compared to more freestyle/wakestyle oriented boards). You just have to make a personal choice about what's most important to you. Good luck. |

I had the 06 FLX 132 untill I lost it at Roster Rock, then pick up the 07 FLX 132 when the became available.
It a good beginer/intermediate board. Smooth rails, soft/med flex. The board was fun to ride because you could get away with alot of mistakes.
The board does not have much "POP". Tip and tail are tapered for easy toe side transition and it really does suck up the chop. I just sold my 07 FLX 132 today. It relativly the same size as the Lunacy but the Lunacy has a wider tip and tail and is much stiffer, way better for "POP".
I weight 170 lbs and felt that it was a little to forgiving (i.e. soft) towards the end of last season. Now I riding the Lunacy and McLoving it |

| Well I guess that shows you what I know. The 06's are stiffer than the 07's, and comparably more pop... so I guess it makes a nice ocean board, or intermediate as noted. |

sounds like I should look for a slightly stiffer and more squarish board.
I thought the 07 would be stiffer with the wood core? |

Ok, so people are not too crazy about the FLx. I'm way to big for a lunacy (200lbs). What about a crazy fly proline?
And don't want a completely unforgiving board, jsut something with a little more grab and pop . |

The Crazy Fly boards are pretty good. I haven't ridden them since 2006 though.
I'm almost 200 lbs too and I just ordered the LF Recoil Comp 134 from 2nd Wind with the comp interface kit. Rode Genek's this weekend and fell in love with it. When I get mine in a week or two you can demo it.

I saw that one as well. I was never a real fan of LF boards as alot of them I saw were cheap heavy pieces of compressed crap but maybe they deserve another look. LF is so much about the looks and "style" of stuff, its a little off putting to me. |

| Dude, you should definitely try out the new Recoil boards. I just got the Recoil Comp a week ago and have ridden it three times now. It's an awesome board. Light with a great flex pattern for super POP (stiff in the middle and a bit softer in the tips). Planes and shoots upwind really well. Forrest was really stoked on it too after trying it. Mine's a 131 so probably a bit small for ya, but lemme know if you wanna give it a go to get the feel. |
