PDXMonkeyboy wrote the following questions that I answered and is deep in the another thread, but I believe is important for people to read before they vote:

Q. I was wondering if you have any specific goals or accomplishments that you hope to achieve this year?

A. I think I have hit the highlights fairly well in the other thread "From Existing CGKA Leadership", but again one goal would be to broaden our horizon outside of Hood River this year - that we have already begun. I would like to see other launch sites get similiar treatment as the HR Sandbar receives. Mark's organization of a Stevenson Cleanup on March 22nd is a great start in the right direction. Another goal is to gain a full understanding of the kiteboarder's and windsurfer's opinion on IF A FRONTAGE ROAD SHOULD BE BUILT to the north of I 84 that includes a bridge that will cross the Hood River. I have been chosen by the Port of Hood River to represent ALL waterfront users, not just kiteboarders as one of 9 representatives (mostly city and county managers) in a Stakeholders Working Group to help make this paramount decision. The first meeting was March 20th at 3:00 PM, and the rest of the upcomming meetings this spring and summer will be midweek at 2:00 PM. Good thing I don't have a full time business career in Portland like I did until 2005. I would also like to see the Lyle Launch become more easy to access and have the railroad bless our existance there. The Slider situation is also a great example of how we can find a happy medium between the slider user's needs and the governmental agency's desires. One launch that has not yet been mentioned, but is getting consideration for a project manager is Sauvies Island - I think it is a great idea, but the new BOD will need to decide if it is a 2008 or 2009 project start timeframe. If we continue our track record over the past two years - quality of work is as important as quantity, meaning I would not like to see CGKA attempt to do too many projects so we don't accomplish the level of quality we are now known for achieving.

I have much else to write but don't want to put people to sleep Smile

Q. What do you presently see as the biggest issues to the kiteboard community.

A. Due to the infancy of the sport and its inherent danger, kiteboarding is treated as the dangerous sport that takes second priority to windsurfing by the governing agencies and recreation committees. I don't like this, but understand that we can't change this perception overnight. We need to take little steps at a time. The fact that we can now kite at the Eventsite 7 months a year is a small step in the right direction. I dream of the day where I get a windsurfer to launch my kite on July 4th right smack in the middle of the grass on the Eventsite lawn Thumb's Up

Q. Do you have any ideas on how to keep CGKA members more informed of the goings ons of the CGKA?

A. We have been taking measures to let the members be aware of our goings on and decisions proactively. The new BOD will have 11 people on it, and a person primarily dedicated to communications.

I do have a request - can we please try to take the emotion out of this election and focus on having a fantastic summer for all!

Thank you,

Jim
