Its not easy factoring in 6 variables, it might still need some tweaking but I feel this is a pretty good scale.
See for yourself, anything over 100 points means you have to go kiteboarding.

Wind=15 (Wind speed mph)
Gust=30 (Gust speed mph)
Air=50 (air temperature°F)
Water=38 (water temperature °F)
N=10 (Number of days since last session)
Miles=0 (Distance to kiting destination)

Wind_points=-Wind^2/6.2+Wind*8-60
Gust_points=-2*(Gust-Wind)
Air_points=Air
Water_points=2*Water-50
N_points=50-50*exp(-N/10)
Miles_points=-Miles/3

Total=Wind_points+Gust_points+Air_points+Water_points+N_points+Miles_points

Florian, I know it's the beginning of the term, but don't you have to go TA or something? Laughing

If only I could program, I could automatically download forecasts from websites and combine them with Google maps and my little calculator program to create kiteboarding scores for each location based on where you live. You drive to the location with the highest points. It would also keep track of your sessions for that component of the score.
Somebody with this capability reading this must be sitting at work with nothing to do...

What do I think?

Hmmmm I don't know why Spike is striking out with the ladies? Could be that fascination with his new graphing calculator.

Here is my 100 scale that determines if I should go kiting or not...

(air temperature + water temperature) - (days in the current week I've kited) % (overtime I will have to work if I leave early) * (the inverse of money spent on new gear in the last six months) + [(the square root of days my wife will be pissed at me for sticking her with baby duty * the number of days since we last had sex)].

If the resulting number is between 1 and 5000 then I will do my best to get out on the water. It should be noted that the above noted formula breaks down if the air or water temperature is below 45 degrees.

whoa, is that an algorithm? Yesterday I went kiting at the ft steven's at the s. jetty ponds. According to your chart, it was -40 on the points scale. It wasn't that much fun either. 20-40 on my 13m, by myself, so cold, drift wood in the water everywhere! I brought two beers one bottle of water! One beer for me, two beers for me, and my dogs split the water. If you factor in the enjoyment of those two beers I break even on you scale. That's not a bad way to spend the afternoon. And I rode for a couple hours. ppplllrrrrrt.

If only my dogs could get the camera out once in a while.
