As a two year veteran of the sport, I feel like I should know the answer to this question, but after a through reading of several kite/bar manuals I still can't find a proper answer. What do I hook the kite leash to? I have been flying Waroos with an 06 bar and hooking to the "OSR", which works fine, but now that I am starting to try back rolls the leash gets wrapped around the bar and it is a pain. I am also going to be using a new Cabrina bar this winter with no OSR. Some of the manuals say: hook to this or hook to that, but they don't really say what the kite will do if you release it. So, what does the kite do? Thank you in advance for not ragging on me too hard. |

| One of the biggest problems with most 4 line kites is that there is no below the bar safety to hook your leash to. Thus resulting in your current situation. Your only option is to rig the leash "suicide" style to your depower line just above your chicken loop. The problem with this system is that it defeats your quick relese system. If you punch out you kite will remain powered and you will need to release you secondary safety system (aka your leashes quick release). This will result in your kite being blown away from you and into potential danger (ie. beach goers). I was very happy to see that Slingy finally came up with a much needed solution to this problem with their Rev bar. Do some research and find out if a below the bar safety system will be compatible with your kite....if so buy it and ditch the suicide leash idea. |

| I am not that familiar w/ the 06 bar. On the 07 bar, there is a little steel loop just above the actual chicken loop before you get to the bar. That is where I, and everyone else I've seen, hook in. [/img] |

I ran into the same problem when I started doing rolls. However, I think it actually helped me, it will force you to learn how to do each trick on the opposite tack as well. Do two backrolls one way, then two the other way. Once you can do front rolls, do one front roll for every backroll. Basically don't rotate your bar to compensate for the twisted lines (this wraps your leash around your lines), let your lines cross (no more than twice, otherwise your steering will begin to lock up), the steering will still work just fine, then do a backroll or front roll to undo the twisted lines. In addition, twisted lines shorten your steering lines, which means extra power! Always much fun !
also check out this post, I asked the same question a while back:

Drew,
i would just do the suicide leash system using a leash with a quick release. When you let go of the waroo or crossbow bar the power is going to drop a whole bunch. If for some reason you are still in trouble you can just release the leash.
The cabrinha bar has one of the worst setup for a safe leash. The chicken loop is so damn big and the single line with the ring to hook the leash to is way the hell away from your body. I freakin hate my crossbow bars.. love my CB, but hate the bar. I think you would be happier with your waroo bar.
Come over and you can borrow one of my QR leashes. |

spike's got the ticket, just untwist your lines with another rotation.
also, if your leash gets wrapped around your chicken loop line, why not un-hook and let it un-twist itself, and then hook back in? It will help ya with unhooked riding, and provides more confidence if you ever accidentaly come unhooked.
now all ya hafta do is an inverted frontroll with a back to front pass. |
