Sat Dec 01, 07 9:18 pm Pre-Hurricane session! |

Me and Reaper hit up Beverly beach this afternoon and did a short pre-hurricane downwinder to otter rock. Wind was crazy up and down. Threw the 11m up first, but it was waay too much, then the 7m, much better. It was raining hard and sand was blasting down the beach. When we got going, we got slammed by another squall, this time with hail, luckily the kite survived it, which is more than I can say for the following:
I have a bunch of little cuts in my canopy, close to the leading edge, and I never put my board on it. I'm pretty sure its because of the one-pump clips that poke trough and tear the fabric when I roll it up. Anybody else ever had this problem? I figure I'll just put some sort of sleeve around the one-pump tube to protect the canopy when I roll it up. I've never heard anybody say anything about this so maybe its just me... |

| I haven't had it happen to me, but those clips will start wearing on your kites if you're rolling them up too tight or in the "wrong" spots (a lot of tight-folding near the struts). |

That was fun! I personally enjoyed the hail storm! There were just a bunch of squalls passing through. Very lit on the 9m!
Cleared up and lulled out as we approached the punchbowl and actually got pretty nice - I could totally tell what direction the sun was.
Spike - Props to your dad on support!
It was blowing gusting around 30+ when we left at ~5:00! |

Way to charge it guys!
I've never had a problem with the clips like you describe Spike. I always use a couple of straps to tie up my kite after I roll it up. My thought is that by keeping the kite securely tied, there's no rubbing of the material as the kite is carried... I don't know if that's really what the deal is with yours, but it hasn't hurt my kites yet. Putting something around the clips would probably be a good idea, but I've never tried it. Seems like it would reduce the risk of a bridle getting stuck in the clip too. I've not had that happen either, but it seems like it might be possible... |

spike,
do you roll your kites up? i usually fold my fuels keeping the one-pump valves directly in the center(not on a crease) of each fold.
also, inspect the nylon where it rubs against the bladder material(dacron)....it is easy for sand/or hail to wedge in tight as you pump your kite to rock solid status, making it easy to pierce thru. |

I roll them up, and by the sound of it I'll stop doing that, folding like you described seems better. I'll try and make some little cover for them too. As for the sand wedged between the bladder and Dacron, I've seen it there and will try to shake it out when the kite is deflated. Thanks for the tip! |

I had 04/05 and 06 Fuels. I always rolled them tip to center, then folded in 1/3's. Never had the problem you are describing.
