Mon Nov 26, 07 5:30 am RV Camping on the river in June |
|

We are planning for a trip out West (coming from the Great Lakes) for the month of June next year and are nailing down some reservations. Does anyone have a recommendation or two for a RV site close to or on the river? I remember camping at "The Wall", which I think was Maryhill, a long time ago.
Thanks guys,

Hey Brad,
There is an RV park called Skamania Coves that is about 3 miles east of Stevenson on the Washington side of the river. It's right on the river but I don't think you can kite from any of their beaches as they are too sheltered. Link: http://www.skamaniacoves.com/
West of Stevenson is Beacon Rock State Park and I think they have camping and RV sites.
There are also some state parks on the Oregon side of the river that are pretty nice but I don't think they have any direct water access either. Look them up here: http://www.oregonstateparks.org/searchpark.php?region=columbia_gorge
Have fun and stop by Stevenson when you get into town.

Thanks so much Tony. I will check that stuff out. Looking forward to it and we will definitely get into Stevensville. That sounds familiar? I think I toured the Seatrend Plant there right after Randy French set it up. They were also making Dynafiber masts there on a machine that was designed for making shoe laces, only they were running carbon fiber spools on it right onto a mandrel. Man, that was awhile ago! _________________ "USE THE FORCE" |

ahh...so nice to see a familar avatar and screen name from the afar. You can count on it sol...we have the whole month to roam the NW with a camper and all the kite gear we own. The coast is definite on the "must ride" list. _________________ "USE THE FORCE" |

The wall is sorta dusty and not such a great kite launch. You may want to consider hanging around at Rufus, which is across the river and a mile or two east of there. It's got great RV parking (camping allowed for up to 10 days I think), bathrooms, and a reasonably good cove for kids to swim in (at least before the kite action gets going).
