I think we're going to do Meadows, even though it's bound to be packed. Supposed to be windy, so I might take the kites up... Very Happy

Massive crowds at Buttercup, or uncrowded Easterlies? Very Happy Of course with only the 2 lifts open there might be some uncrowded terrain you can hike into... Have fun wherever!

I'm sure Rooster will be gentle to you next time PKH... Very Happy I was thinking either the airport or Cottonwood, whichever looks better. Maybe a downwinder from Cottonwood to Camas if conditions are good? What time were you thinking PKH?

thinking around noon at airport if it goes. looks dead right now.

Camas might be another option, that was real fun last time I tried. And driving by yesterday looks like a lot more flat water.

Was there any spot to launch at Camas? Last time I looked the water was too high, but that was a couple of weeks ago. I would have said too much North in the wind for Cottonwood, bur Pauls posed that he had a good session yesterday... I'll check it out and let you know. If all else fails maybe launch the boat at Camas and ride across the river at the mouth of the Sandy... Kind of a pain in the ass getting anchored in a good spot, along with getting the boat in and out of storage.

Air temp is in the 40s in the afternoon, not sure about the water temp.

Where are people launching at the airport? We scoped out a few spots, some with potential and some super sketchy. The beach next to the marina would be perfect but yesterday was way too protected.

I'll be heading to Broughton to skate in a little while.
I won't be on the water, the hole in the seat of my wetsuit is just too big for how cold it is.
That means I might be available to launch/land some kites if nobody else shows.

Did anyone else get out? I was at Cottonwood 2:30 - 4pm. 7m '06 Waroo was the right size but i need to high wind mod it - was doing some really wierd things in the gusts. Steadiest wind was just upwind of the sand point. Much colder today, yesterday fine with no gloves today my hands hurt like hell after an hour - warming them back up was really painful. Their were some really big gusts today - thought the bar was going to be ripped out of my hands a couple of times

I went to Cottonwood about 12:30 but the wind was so squirrelly I didn't ride. The wind was lulling to 0 and gusting to 30 on the beach... Looked like 7m winds once you got out into the channel though. The wind must have settled out at least a bit by 2:30?

Are you going far enough east to check the wind? Right where you get to the beach from the parking lot the conditions are terrible. I pump up my kite out by the sand spit about 300m east, then walk another couple of hundred metres east to attach my bar and launch. The wind is decent in the channel between the island and WA shore. Huge wind shadow if you come in by Cottonwood beach itself, i rode down there today to end my session and as i rode round the end of the sand spit my kite just fell out of the sky. Actually quite nice to know i have somewhere sheltered to run to if i get completely overpowered.

Rode with the Viento crew, Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr! 36 degrees. Shocked

9m was fun for awhile but 11m would have been better.

I know to head to the spit, I didn't realize at this water level that there was a place to launch east of there. Makes sense though... Looked pretty windy that way. I walked maybe a hundred meters east of the spit, didn't look like there was any place to launch. I guess it opens up around the corner? Should have walked further. Sad Thanks for the info! The spit is good riding if the wind is more ESE.
