| I'll probably have the opportunity to stay with some family friends in/around La Grande this winter. Does anybody know if there is any wind there or nearby, or how much snow will be on fields in December/January. |

| That is a very good question. We are all looking for a good spot to snowkite in oregon. I personally am not sure about that area but bring your gear just in case. You never know. I am thinking right now that i will have to hit timberline later this week if the snow keeps up. Not the best place for a beginner but i want to snowkite bad enough so i dont really care. Anyone else up for some Hood snowkiting??? |

| is hood safe enough? as in steady wind, no up/down-drafts, not too many obstacles? If so I'd love to try it. I'm sure it wouldn't be too busy if you go before they open. |

| I am not 100% sure about the wind. I know people have kited up there. I've seen pics and video. I think for the most part i am just going to check it out. Look around and scout. You know. I think the best thing to do would be to check the conditions and how consistent they have been for the day prior to going up. I dont recomend going when there is a storm approaching. that can never be good. |

JP and I've done Meadows and Timberline at mid-mountain, and it wasn't that great... Everytime we've had to deal with fluky wind (which wasn't fun on C kites), especially when you're riding on hard pack/ice. If you've got some way to get up to the glacier, then there's plenty of room, but you still need decent wind.
I'm hoping for lots of snow on Hospital Hill or Dalles Mt. this year! |

I've mapped some out the better spots down here:
http://www.southernoregonkiteaddicts.com/S.O.K.A.%20snowkite%20guide.htm
Starting next year S.O.K.A. will be hosting three snowkiting events.
January 26th, Febuary 23rd, and march 22nd. <--mark those dayz
I'll post the details soon.

I know last year we discussed a trip out to the Steens Mt area,...Vast terrian with very little for obstructions, fences, roads, that sorta thing. _________________ I stretch my wings and pull the strings Last edited by Sol-flyer on Sun Nov 18, 07 11:15 am; edited 1 time in total |

I think the final on steens was the ranger gave it a thumbs down,
I took that as noone else will be riding there when we get there,
lets do it when it snows
I've been firing the sleds several times a week. |

Always seems to be windy and snow on the ground right by Ladd Canyon. . .right off i-84. Always nasty weather there on my way to and from Sun Valley. . . cattle country so best to scout out before it snows as there is plenty of barbed wire delineating/designating separate property lines and leased fields. |
