So its hard not to start thinking about what board could be the winner at next year's KB4C derby. Did some searching and found the following, if anyone has something to add - please do!
Modded Spleen Door 64 - This is one ugly beast, but I think would be an interesting ride. The Glide I rode in the event did really well at coasting through the soft spots and hauling upwind. The only downside was crusing downwind... they dealt with this on this design by some frankenstien fliptips. No clean release on these I'd imagine, but from what the designer was saying they work:

Until now we have only experimented with twintip boards. For "standard" twintip boards Spleene Door is the best upwind going board we have sailed on yet. But in wawes it is very difficult to go downwind fast. The fronttip of the board goes into the waves and you crash! Therefore we have made the modification with the spoilers, to prevent this. The board wil works its way out of the wave again, because of the spoiler.
As you can see from the pictures we have also cut some of the board in both ends. When you are going upwind this part of the board has no effect, but going downwind it eysier holding the board like at Speedboat on the wather (keep the nose up). If the board is very wide at the tips, this will be more and more difficult as faster you sail.
The changes I have made on the Spleene Door 64 you can see here:

We are still experimenting. Today I have change the hadlegrap out with a extra foodstrap, and will try to use it both upwind and downwind. I do not know if it works yet.
The two boards on the pictures are until know the two wining boards in Denmark, but we have also some guys using directionals, and they are doing good to.
I thing the dicetional have some advanges in courses at open see were the waves are big, and specially if the course is long. In smaller waves and smaller courses, with a lot of "turns"? the twintip perhaps is better.

Neptune Quad Race (Surfboard) - Sounds interesting, apparently the big winners in the San Francisco race series have been using this board. Its got a straighter design with less rocker.

Booster Surfboard - Apparently Bruno Sroka, whose dominating the PKRA race circut uses this board:

What about all out speed, not just racing? - Current PKRA speed leader:

So very interesting, seems like overall directionals (I don't know if we should really call them surfboards) are the more dominant choice right now.

This post makes me wonder what configuration Corey will come up for the next year's KB4C. PKH wants to defend his title, I am sure Cory wants to snatch it from him. I am lookiing forward to the race next year as I am sure the battle will continue....

Good stuff Dano, followed a few links and ended up at this site (which I had seen but haven't visted in awhile):
http://50knots.xs4all.nl:3006/gps-kitesurfing/gps.asp?mnu=user&val=255&uid=47
Check that out 48.8 knots! That's .1 knots over the current WSSRC record holder (a windsurfer) at 48.7 knots. Now we just need a WSSRC event and the right conditions and kiters will be the fastest wind powered craft on the water.
If you look at his log he actually surpassed the 50 knots barrier a few times which is like the holy grail of sailing speed records.
Oh yeah and here is Sebastian's gear:
Here's a shot of one of his boards from a year ago, not sure what he rides now...
