Just the 2 cents of a punkass visitor: I can see how some people dont want others, ecsp. non-locals, riding their seceret stash and that goes with most outdoor sports, snowboarding, climbing, skating, right down to hunting, for those of you who call that sport. We all live in an area for a reason, and unfortunately thats usually the same reason people want to visit. I dont research spots through the pictures, and anyone that does is gonna be ill prepared. I think its bad-ass to see how you folks are tearing it up and I could care less where it is, as long as its in the NW and not some tropical isle somewhere. I have known about Rufus since I started researching the whole river for sites, I already want to hit all of them, and experience each of them for myself, the pics are just are an added bonus to break up the monotany of some of the fussin. Also good idea on the flyers at the sandbar, again as an out of towner there for the first time, I did see all the signs, but a more kite specific handout might be beneficial. After all, the short time I spent down there, I did get to see the sandbar kook staple, on Sunday, 2 guys repeatedly hotlaunching an older style unnamed brand of kite straight up the window, getting drug downwind 50yds, just to hike back up and do it again. I see why a lot of you locals would be upset and grumpy. Laughing Laughing

North Idaho - hey man - Most of us welcome out of towners. There are some localists - but I believe they are in the minority.

By the way - were you the guy who rigged up the 10M North kite on Sunday and decided not to go out because there wasn't enough wind? (You even thout about rigging up your 12 - but still not enough wind?) Just curious if that was you.

21. Don't kite at all. There's too much risk in someone else seeing you kite and want to try it themself.

I've been reading the forum for a while now and your suggestions made me decide to join. I've only been to the gorge a couple of time because of either too many Kooks or too many freaks (people who think they own the place). Both are a pain, but whatcha gonna do,eh? I always ride at the coast, but now I think I wanna bring my friends, dogs, grandma, ex-girlfriend, and a plate full of sloppy joes to the Gorge and have a blast. Don't hate me cause I'm beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised by the few people I talked to that were more than helpful, ecsp a young guy in a black Jetta. I was under the 10M Copper/white/black bularoo mostly downwind of everyone.lol!! Actually that was Monday too. I didnt get down to the spit Sun till late afternoon. Plenty of wind for my 10 tho, even with my fat a$$ on Monday.

Just curious if that was you on Sunday - when you mentioned the two dudes hotlaunching and dragging themselves. They were putting on a show for everyone - I got a kick out of watching them get dragged. Finally my girlfriend said she had enough and had to tell them to launch on the side of the wind window - I was like "now there goes everyone's entertainment Twisted Evil " Fortunately neither of those dudes got injured - some scratches but thats about it. They kept trying for several hours - very persistent!!

I was stoked to get to witness the kookiness I hear about!! Rolling Eyes We were watching for awhile. A few drinks later and I looked out and saw them properly launching, i was wondering who clued them in. Laughing How bout the jackass that had the blue 15m out at sunset before dropping it in the water and barely making it to the last little sandbar downwind. He prbly learned a valuable lesson: Never kite alone, close to dark in low winds in a new place after drinking the 12% IPA's at the pub uptown. Embarassed Embarassed Prbly a damn visitor....Im sure!!
