agree with stringy - this forum runs smooth because of all the good NW people and your smooth moderating style...whatever you decide is good here of course!
More moderating = less kite time for you = the crazed Trevor face setting in! |

A demo day with all possible brands on deck is definitely a good idea. Realistically the only place big enough to support such an event is probably Hood River or the coast. Even the Pismo beach expo last Spring became the most crowded kiting I've ever done with kites lining the beach for almost a mile, and Pismo beach is a huge wide open sandy beach. Stevenson and even Lyle would get crowded too fast with lots of people going in and out every few minutes.
I agree that demoing is the only way to test gear for yourself, but with the amount of different kites out there it's sometimes hard to try all of them. I just thought the reviews could help people figure out which kites they might want to try the most so they could prioritize their efforts. Kinda like checking reviews about cars before deciding which ones to test drive.
The site is great as it is. I'm just throwing ideas out there while we're on topic. |

What if for example, you setup the sandbar or event site, similiar to the kite derby. Have each demo user do an upwind lap maybe up to the bridge and then downwind back to the event site. These laps were approximately 10-15 minutes. you could stagger the launches with different brands so it would decrease the congestion at the launch site.
This could be great exposure for all the companies that want to reach the market. it would be a mini pismo kite expo. The derby had 50 some kites and most were setup on the beach that morning. It just takes major coordination and management to achieve it. start in the morning when the wind is light for Q and A with the reps and when the wind picks up very rider is cycled through every brand they sign up for ahead of time.
just a thought.

| Would still need moderation if there were a forum, but I agree terremotto that it would be nice to here what people had to say about gear in local conditions - or some entertaining stories at least. |

I feel very much like a broken record on this subject, though I don't really mind re-iterating my opinion, and I encourage challenge to it. Perhaps a separate poll for a gear review section without the restrictions above?

Phil, some kiters on this forum are not in the market for a current year kite. Some kiters budgets only allow them to buy one or two year old stuff. Demos are a little hard to come by - lets say on an 06 torch - unless a friend of yours has one. One example where gear vs. gear threads could be helpful would be in comparing older gear - lets say a 2006 torch and a 2006 fuel or a 2006 rhino and a 2006 revolver or something like that. It would be good to know the relative power, pull and bar pressure. Also, even if you have friends who have these specific kites it would be helpful to hear reviews from other kiters to help you narrow down the choices of kites. Thats my four hundred and seventy five pesos (equivalent to about 3.5 cents in the US). |

Like the big forum if idiots want to rant let them .
I would say this community would sort them out
rather quickly.
I know when I go off I will have some flare-ups to deal with .
I don't think the Kite-Forum "goes wrong"
the people do.
If you think your'e gonna go off and everyone is going to give you shit afterwards perhaps the key strokes will be more calculated.
Without feedback how do YOU make your decisions?
Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see.
I can assure you that if someone gives a review of some gear it's relationship to me is almost insignificant.
nobody is going to be able to try all the gear anyway.
I recall a user giving some spurious info on a kite review a couple years ago on this forum and the last time I saw something about him(on the big forum) it was about that review, 2 years later still being called on it.
(ouch)
It's easy to go off
hard to be respectful
it's what defines us
how well we DEAL.
No seperate sections
just let it roll.
With so much shit in the world I think we can handle
some trash talking about KITES!!!?
It's nice to see the respect for our other wind brothers (windsurfers)
and less and less derogetory use of the word "GAY".
With so many of the countries people being obese it's also nice that there is less making fun of them as well.
We all know some people who are fat or gay and some of us love those people.
So a level of maturity has been moved foward ,already
Not everybody is going to be a perfect
"KITER"
oh ya
yer gear and you suck
btw,imho,
kindly,
another dipshit |

a flame section just gives some a "bag of rocks" to throw.
i think there are more grown-ups here than any of the others i frequent, and i am a bit of a forum junkie.
good mix of humor and respect.

The majority of the dudes on this forum are pretty mature and can handle talks of other gear. Most everyone understands that gear preference is just that - a preference. The guys that state this brand is the way, the truth, the light, only through this kite will you be able to board - are strongly in the minority.
I do have some some reservations about a no holds barred flame war - I feel it may spread into the regular forum - if a member is completely flaming me on one thread (even if its in a different section) - then I am not going to be very respectful to that member on any other thread.
