Been in HR area for last 8 days.. got 5 solid kiting days in .. prob could have put up a kite the other days but damn I needed a break.

You guys (and gals) have got it good over here. The sandbar at HR is an amazing place to kite. Rufus, Lyle.. all great spots..

Good vibes all around. Everyone I met (most seemed to be from out of state) had that same perma-grin that I've been wearing since I got here.

Our season in Florida is about to kick in.. October thru next May should be great. Cant wait to head back this way a couple times next summer. I will miss the epic launches off the swells.. damn I will miss those most of all.

Glad to hear you had such a great time....I have been here 4 years now, and since day one its been the same treatment.! Must be something in the water. Wink

I might be planning a trip over Thanksgiving to Stuart/Hutchingson Island area. We would be staying right on the ocean side of the island..

How is the wind that time of year...? What kind of swell/flat water/shallow? -and I hear we would be hanging out with the country-clubers and the +70 crowd, is that true????

Thanks,
-jake

Thanksgiving time can be a very good time in FL when the frontal winds blow thru. Just keep an eye out for any cold fronts that come through and then wait for the wind to clock around from the NE / E direction. it may give you 3-4 days of wind a week this way. No shallow water, the Ocean side will be waves breaking right on shore and swells on the outside with short periods between them. Downwinders there are sweet! Hutchinson island is well heeled so it will be greater proportion of older people but they stay home during stormy weather

Not at that spot in particular at all!

I'll share a secret with you, goto bathtub reef on the ocean side straight east on that intercoastal road then south a little bit and walk way south of the lifeguard stand on the beach halfway to the inlet

But it looks like you are looking for intercoastal flat water, so go to any of the intercoastal roads north of that area and if you see a windsurfer or a little beach then you can try it there. in other words look for the beach on the intercoastal road along the water that runs west to east ( not N/S which is onshore during E winds ). the one on your map that says 707 is a good one. watch out for nasty things in the intercoastal, oysters, muck and slime ,yechhhhh!

Cool...thanks for the advice BigR... Very Happy

Na, flat water isn't neccesary, I would rather be on the ocean side anyways. How about some tasty downwinders for the GF and me...?

Glad the gorge has been good to you! I'll be heading back to St. Pete Beach and Tampa around Christmas. Was not into kiting when I used to live there, so I am stoked to bring my gear this time.

I'm guessing Tierra Verde and Ft. DeSoto would be good spots to hit? Sound right? If you know of any areas I should definately go to, please let me know (especially northern Tampa Bay and Clearwater area). Otherwise, I'll just be kicking around seeing what & who I can find.

Hopefully we'll have many windy days here at home before I need to start heading south.

Brian
