I've been working on my unhooked riding all summer and I'm getting better, but I watch Hein out there and he just kills it. I know he's riding short lines and a small kite, but I want the full details. How about it Hein? Can you give us the full details on your current set up? Kites, bars, lines and board.
Thanks,
Bandito

thanks for the compliment.

I'm using a 7m Airush Reactor.
(can't wait to get Generators)
14.5" pulley bar & 20 m lines
board is a 5-9 x 18.75 quad
made with special ingredients.

Tip #1 Try some of this stuff
for traction on your strapless
board.

Can you give us a brief description of how you make this setup work? Most of us are riding SLE kites for the "gusty" gorge conditions and there you are out with a C kite and fixed lines ripping it up. I see you walking up the beach with your kite in one hand over your head with little concern about the gusts while the rest of us are in the chicken loop and have the bar sheeted out just to make it to the water. What's the secret?

Tip #2

If you're riding strapless at the coast and you fall off out near
shipping lane while tacking up wind to where the sets are firing;
it's a good idea to sing a little song while you retrieve your board.

I like 3 Blind Mice

or the theme from Jeopardy

Go and do it, just fucking go and try and try and eat shit and get up and try some more.

You were watching, weren't you paying attention, do you need it spelled out, its called TIME ON THE WATER, which doesn't mean going back and forth all safe, it means going for what you have no clue about, eating shit, getting it back togeather and doing it again and again and again.

Nothing comes for free. pay the price of admission and enjoy the show. Cool

hey hein,

that is just about the best advice i have ever heard about kiteboarding. i can actually feel the tension in that explanation.

kt
ps. boredbrain, i get it. i, too, tend to 'play it safe' a lot. i have just started doing unhooked tricks and it makes for some intense wipeouts but, a great sensation when you make it. thanks.

Hein's tip on the 20m lines is something to really pay attention to. I've been riding 07 fuels on the same length lines this year and 20m absolutely kills it. Can't really explain it, you just gotta try it.

On a C kite.

Powered.

So what changes when you fly 20m lines to 25m lines?
How does the kite fly differently? more pull ? less pull?
What is the advantage to flying 20m lines apposed to 25m lines when your unhooked?

Do a search, there is a thread on the forum about the differences. in general shorter is faster with a little less range and a little less jumping ability.
