Has anyone created a google map of launch areas for the Hood River / Portland vicinity?
Similar to what was created for our area here in St. Petersbug..

I don't know about a google map but just about every possible launch site
has been printed in years past in intimate details in the Gorge Guide magazines.
They are free I think or were. I may even have some old copies lying around.
Of course there are a few secret spots that nobody wants you to find out about as well.
Anywho, the easiet places to launch that come to me are ( working east )
coast, jones, sauvies, rooster rock, stevenson, viento, sand spit, mosier, lyle, rowenna, dougs, secret spot, maryhill, rufus, roosevelt
I believe this will help Bryan:

bleighty, that is a very cool map. I like the notes on each location. All it needs is a hotlink to the nearest wind sensor.
Does anybody here know how to do that and maybe have it show up under the Spots link on NWKite?

tonyb...
go to map.google.com
click the "my maps" tab on left side..
choose "create new map" button.
you need a gmail account to do this i think..
and..
we dont use our wind sensors too much here in our area..they are HORRID. ikitesurf.com & our locals have gone round and round about it.
oh well.
considering this entire area is water happy and activities in the bay or in the gulf are many peoples life its amazing that our wind/marine forecast sensors are quite lacking. i use the local airports forecast tool... its pretty accurate but does not give real time actuals.. blah. _________________ You fill that with Ice Cream and I'll eat it. |

we need to combine that one website, I think it is..
www.windonwater.com or www.windoverwater.com a NWKITER posted it awhile back with wind speeds in P-Town area...
then add the google maps launches site to it.

I came across this a while ago, it has alot of the gorge spots with notes once you zoom in.
Info is mostly about windsurfing, but there are some notes on whether the spot is a good kite launch.

Also, for real-time wind, I created this site that puts real-time free sensors onto google maps.
Free sensors are pretty accurate for finding kiteable wind in oregon:
