sounds like you had a rough day spike!
But you still have the stoke factor going for you! Good luck tomorrow!
I have most of the day off on Wednesday, so hopefully the weather will be nice by then.

Got a double Session in on Monday.
From Noon to 2:30 at the Hatchery. I did a PKH, JSP style, flew a 9M and rode a fuse. Sick board After seeing how well I was doing in the totally up and down conditions a couple other kiters came out and SLOGED around for a while and called it quits.
After that I went down to Stevenson and road from 4:30 to 6:30, same conditions only cloudy. Tryed a self launch at Stevenson which did not go so well I dont think I'll be trying that again.
Had to get my grove on because its going to be a few day's before I can get out again. |

Lyle late had enough wind to keep a number of folks out till 8
Just enough sand to self launch
medium to low quality wind
guessing a 20mph difference between the lulls and gusts based on dougs graph
ankle to knee deep smoothness downwind
still can't jibe a skim

-Slow down,
-kite at 11,
-Lean back into harness,
-shift feet so they're centered on the board both width and length and shoulder width apart,
-kick your feet in a scissor motion (back foot forward, front foot backward) and do a tiny hop but don't move your body up, just suck your knees up a little,
-board should rotate 180
-land on the board,
-bring kite to 1 and,
-wiggle your feet into position like you're doing the Twist
When you bring your kite across the top and to 1 you're going to come to almost a complete stop and be sucked the other way. This is the cool thing about a skim, it will stay on plane with almost no speed.
It takes timing, but it's quite easy. I don't land it every time. This will pave the way for pop-shuvits where you actually ollie and shove the board with only you back foot while your front foot becomes the center of the spin.

Thanks for the tip on jibing, sounds more like a tack
I was trying to do it like windsurfing (carve the board around)
carve downwind and come around to toeside
then hop and switch simultaneously back to heelside
or vice versa switch feet before going downwind.
usually I just end up riding toeside because I always crash during the hop
back to heelside.
I will try the scisor trick to switch the board 180 quickly
also tried some small chop hops going upwind
board stayed stuck to my feet because of the wind underneath
if I tilted the board the right direction
next I am going to try jumping bigger (1-2ft) and grab the board
to keep it on my feet. this should be very entertaining for spectators.

If you move your back foot to the very back of the tail where your toes and heal are almost hanging off you can smash the tail of the board down into the water to ollie. You need to bend your knees as well.
What happens is all the water underneath the board shoots forward and creates a ramp for the board to ride up. Then all you have to do is bring your knees up to your chest, front foot higher than the back, and let the wind push the board against your feet. To land just set the tail down in the water first.
For more height do this right as you hit some chop or a small wave. Also you can jump hard off your front leg as you smash the tail down for more height. |

By the way, the trick to the 180 shove-it I talked about above is to have your back foot perpendicular to the board. If you duck your foot out, it will negatively effect the roll of the board as it is spinning (yaw) and the wind will hit it and push it down wind. |

One more thing, nose grab would be easiest and the sickest for a hooked in grab after an ollie off some chop. Just remember to put the chicken loop rope between your fingers so you don't accidentally send the kite. |

Alternate method:
1. Come into the turn with some speed
2. Carve hard (this looks cool)
3. Halfway through turn head downwind
4. Press back foot - stall board with at 45degree angle do the scissor foot ninja hop
5. drive kite and go
getting it most of the time - seem to do better with sneakers not so much for traction as I can land on the board much harder without tweaking the ankles |
