is my 11m too big for the gorge (aka 20-25 mph winds). I would love to go more often than just once a week to Sauvie's. If so is a 9m better (would i need to buy another bar&lines)? what about the coast? will the 11m usually work for it? And yet one more thing, does anybody ever carpool up to hood river or Stevenson. if not may I suggest multnomah falls parking lot as a good meet-up spot...? sorry, was more than one question. |

sometimes,
no,
sometimes,
and yes
lol...
a 7m would compliment your 11m perfectly. You're pretty skinny, so i think that would be the ticket for you. maybe 2 boards, the one you have and a glide (for lighter winds to stretch out your 11).
you can use the same bar and lines with both kites. You'll only be flying one at a time, hopefully!
the coast is tricky. sometimes I go out on my 12 and have to run back in for my 7, a range of kites is pretty crucial.
we carpool all over the place... if heading east, troutdale is a great place to meet. there's a huge parking lot behind the mcdonalds that truckers use. I've used it many many times. Heading west, there are countless places! Just post when you are going, and someone will chime in! |

Once you start riding a little more, that 11m should get you to the 25-30 range fairly easy. And I'd definately take Brett's advise and go for a 7m, unless you're going to be buying more than one more kite.
My normal carpool, meet-up spot is Arby's in Troutdale. One of my buddies is the manager there, so he'll normally can keep an eye out to make sure our cars aren't getting fucked with. |

It is not too big, you are just to small.
Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
Seriously though, it should be fine for the gorge, you will just end up learning how to edge really hard to puch the kite to the edge ofthe window.
That, or you will learn to Railey really early. |

if it is blowing 25-35 i'd say that is probably too much kite. A buddy of mine usually rides his 7m waroo in anything from 20+mph winds on up. |

If I do get more than one more kite, then what?
(I'll definitely take you up on the carpool thing if you have some room. I wouldn't mind driving a few times but don't have a very big car. How will I know If you guys are heading out there?) |

without talking brands, since you have an SLE 11m, stick with it and get an SLE 7m. This will cover you from the lowest range of your 11 to as high of winds as you'll need to get out in your first year or two! (or three).
since you have a slingy, it doesn't hurt to stay with a slingy. If you want to save money, there's a ton of 06 7m waroo's for sale on ikitesurf's classified section. I also recently noticed that monkeykites came out with an SLE that is pretty cheaply priced, though I know nothing about it.
as far as heading out. posting here is a good start. You'll probably start to see trends and establish a 'regular' group to kite with after a while. you can also shoot me an email anytime you want (i'll pm you with my email), and I'll let you know where I'm going ... .though it's going to be another month or two before I get to kite again... come on shoulder... |

I picked up a 7m to go with my 12m (bows) and could have used my 50cm bar but picked up a 45cm for the 7m to make my life easier and so I could sell them separately when the time comes. I know alot of people rode the 12/7 combo all last year w/o much trouble. I am looking at a 2nd board to help out even more.

I would say to get a 7m. Get it complete with the 17" bar. This way you always have a backup set of lines/bar etc incase something breaks. Nothing would kill a session than having to head to the store to replace gear. Also the smaller bar will work better with the smaller kites.
Enjoy. |

If you want to stick with Slingy, Link's are only $700 complete, the small sizes work well from what I've heard. Talk to Pepi at 2nd Wind. The bar wouldn't be compatible with your T2, but its a lot cheaper than another T2. |
