This slipped between the cracks and our normal reps for attending meetings were out of town.

Once you attend one meeting, then you usually are given an announcement about the next follow up meeting.

Meetings are also usually posted on the website and printed in the Hood River News announcements section.

The Port of Hood River also publishes a newsletter that I come across every once in a while.

Also, I personally make an attempt to communicate with Port Officials so that there is somewhat of a moderate level of communication maintained between meetings that can allow some preparation for information presentation or discussion at the next meetings.

As a member of the CGWA board of directors, our executive director also keeps us apprised of all meetings involving:
- The Gorge Commission
- Friends of the Gorge
- Columbia River Keepers
- Waterfront Recreation Committee
- Port of Hood River
- Oregon State Parks
- and any other government or state organizations that have any jurisdiction over water access or recreational activities in the greater Columbia Gorge region.

It's like doing schoolwork, the effort you put into it, the more educated and informed you become.

As a member or the CGKA

I'd say the BOD dropped the ball.

Just a post to this forum would
have brought some kiters to the
meeting.

Sorry folks, I was in Mexico attempting to get in some kiteboarding. Is it ok that I go on vacation every so often?

The sad thing is, i would have attended the meeting but nobody bothered to post a notice on nwkite.com, and as i've stated before i was reading quite a bit on the port website the other week and did not see anything about an announcement for the meeting. Have you ever even been to the port website?

You got a lot of nerve bitching at the few people who are trying to wade through all this bullshit and make the CGKA work. We're still in our infancy and far from perfect, but we are trying. It's people like you with your negative attitude that keep people from actually wanting to help and get involed in the CGKA.

I guess you guys missed the point of the sarcasm, in that we can't dedicate our entire lives to the CGKA. It was pretty obvious if you ask me.

Chill out everyone!!!!!

Brucey-- The CGWA is killing it becuase they have been organized for many years and have a fully staffed BOD. They have given us a great model to follow.

The CGKA WILL be there, but you have to crawl before you can walk.

Those of us that have been active on the BOD have donated our time and energy to try and make the gorge a better place to kite. Cut us some slack and help carry some of the load. Put in some sweat equity and help change the game.

I found this on the website (posted it earlier in the thread):

"The Port Commission regular meetings are held the first and third (if needed) Tuesday of each month
Expo Center Conference Room, 405 Portway Avenue, Hood River, Oregon"

I think its okay that people are out of town on vacation, can't make it, whatever... that's why we need more coverage. I'd say we should take Pepi's earlier advice and make sure the BOD has at least 8 people on it. That way there is plenty of coverage. Hopefully at least half the BOD can be Gorge locals, but it'd be good to have PDX reps too (CGKA should be about the entire Columbia, not just Hood River.) We can figure out titles and whatever later, but for now we just need the coverage.

Also I'd say if you are going to talk smack on the foum, make sure to step up and attend the meetings, even better volunteer to help. Joining up and $10 contributions are a good way to start but we need to respect those who have given up a lot of their free time to try to help pull the CGKA together.

In case this isn't abudantly clear: Nobody's getting paid to do this, they are just trying to help the kite community by volunteering their time.

The remarks about the slider and social club elments are really out of line, the meetings have been all about access. The slider has nothing to do with the CGKA.

See ya Sunday.

sorry jim and magic, my wrong. i was just getting the names of everyone mixed up, combined with frustration of the news about the lack of representation at the port meeting. i know everyone is doing their best. crazy that a meeting would occur without a buildup on the forum. was this a last minute meeting?

pepi with your connection within the cgwa, could you maybe help keep us posted with any breaking events if you note they are not making it to the kite community in a timely manner?

the beginning years of this great new kiteboarding association are always going to be met with some growing pains. seems that we need to just keep the faith and know that in time it will be a smooth running machine.

hey, it may not be as bad as we actually all thought, there is a water front recreation meeting at the expo center on Monday May 7th from 4pm - 5pm.

I'm going to try and get off work early and attend.

Endo- as far as this being a last minute meeting, no, we definately just weren't on top of things. Here is the link again (thanks pkh) http://www.portofhoodriver.com/Commission%20Info/Meeting%20Info.htm it definately states they have meetings the first tuesday of every month.
