Hey,

I'm trying to figure this out. I don't want to drive 1:30h from Portland only to find out that the wind is shit.

So for today both ikitesurf and gorgeismygym predicted strong wind the whole day. Now I am looking at the Hood River Event Site DB1 sensor on ikitesurf and the wind is very up and down and not that strong. So what is happening there really? Very Happy Should I trust this sensor or is it usually very off?

Cheers!

The sensors are correct right now.
Plenty of wind (24) at Swell City,
Not so much (14) for launching a kite from the sandbar (Event Site).
And Rufus is probably going off this afternoon (averaging 37).

Thanks for replying! It's another one of these days. I'm new to the area and still trying to figure out which is the best forecast/wind sensor to observe when deciding on going or not.

Rufus sounds tempting, but a bit too far for today. Stevenson might be my best bet then, though I did not enjoy the setup and launch there.

Stevenson will be affected by the clouds more than HR which is just inside the cloud line. It will be gusty anywhere you go today. Yesterday the Hatchery was good in the morning and then shut down around 1 and came back with a vengeance around 2:30. Arlington is the only sure bet today with a looong drive.

Yeah. I saw the wind meter readings. I was just not sure how much I should trust them..

That's very useful! Cheers!

I need to get used to long drives for my kiting sessions. I used to have 20 min to the spot and now the 1:30h or 2h drives are discouraging. I can't just go to the beach and feel the wind, like I used to do. It was also much easier to predict the wind on the coast.

and as we get more into Fall, sometimes driving an extra 20 minutes further East can make the difference between a crappy (or no) session and a great one.

The number of Ikite forecasts that have been correct this season can be counted on one hand Rolling Eyes

Victor is consistently way better with his Gorge forecasts. Check it out:

I'll keep that in mind. So far Jones beach had been a winner for me and I hope it keeps on giving.

@Windian Thanks, I'll check it out.

Arlington was the call today.
Was getting rattled on the 2m wing.
3-mile was probably good as well.

True dat. It's actually the first time I've subscribed in ages, mainly because I wanted to support them for hosting that useful classifieds section.

It's another one of these days where the sensors readings are nuts with lulls below 10 knots and gust reaching 30kt. Is it really this crazy out there?

I was out from 12 noon to 2PM

In a word YES - wind was crazy gusty and less than ideal...

Conditions Saturday at Rufus were just about as good as they get mid-day.
