Any thoughts on getting a 4/3 epic over the 3/2 hyperfreak or 4/3 hyperfreak? I have a 4/3 psycho hooded and a 3/2 shorty neill pried. I want something in between to hit california coast waters in the spring and Oregon coast in the summer. I know there is about 100$ in price, but concerned with durability and warmth

For a question like this it might be worth picking up the phone and calling Cleanline or Gorge Performance. Both these shops sell a ton of wetsuits specifically for the Oregon coast. They also often have great deals.

Oregon coastal water isn't very warm in the summer. Seems like a 4/3 psycho hooded would be appropriate. I'd save your money and just use that until it wears out rather than splitting hairs getting a lower quality 4/3.

I road trip Cali every spring - usually in May. Central coast.
I wear the same 5/3 I use for Oregon coast in summer.
Central coast can be chilly in the spring. Especially Jalama.
No way I'd wear a 3/2 down there.

Agree. The first day of a NW pattern in the summer might be warmer then every day after that in the pattern gets colder and colder (water and air).

Plus as they say, "dress for the swim".

I haven't bought a new O'Neil suit in a long time because the ones I have have lasted years. Big fan.

Purchased 4 Oneill PSYCHO FREAK's about a year ago. (3/2 & 4/3 for me and my wife).

Unfortunately all 4 are falling apart after 1 year. Seams opening up, seam tape flaking off and neck gasket stretched out. When new these were the warmest/most comfy suit I had ever purchased but the durability leaves something to be desired. Not what I had expected for a top end suit.

How many sessions would you estimate you have in the suits?
One year of use for some people is more like 4 or 5 years for others.

And yes, the new more flexible high end suits will be more comfortable, but generally won't last as long as the cheaper (or older) low end models.
