saw this on youtube today. obviously not around here (france) but pretty scary.
watch the kiter on the yellow kite right in the middle of the chaos.
turns out he was ok other than tweaking his knee.
I can't really tell from the camera perspective but IMO it doesn't strike me as high risk area. that avalanche had a ton of force that carried it to the flatter terrain where those guys were riding.

Wild video - that guy is SO lucky to be alive...
My .02 is the most valuable defense against avalanche risk is knowledge.
I have lost several friends over the years and heard way too many stories from others choosing to "GO Anyway" - It seems those that do last - have learned the hard way to develop that inner voice and TURN BACK when they don't feel it.
Know what you are getting into - check with the experts etc. etc. when the snowpack is sketchy, do yourself a favor and ride a bike. Relying on your transceiver, avalung or other tech is a very bad bet IMHO. Sadly, in many slides the shovels, probes etc. are used for Recovery NOT Rescue
Just to make the point, check out this video of an AVI in Nepal and see how freakin far the avi runs and how strong the shock wave is, often trees get knocked over BEFORE the snow hits them...
